PureFuel have partnered with a professional services company who are looking to bring on a Head of ESG, as a new position within their ESG & Compliance team.


The primary responsibility of the Head of ESG entails offering strategic direction and overseeing the implementation of the ESG Strategy, as well as managing two direct reports.


You will execute ESG initiatives while navigating different levels of risk and acknowledging the significance of reputation and stakeholder relationships. You will be the central point for all coordination efforts related to ESG activities.


Responsibilities include:

  • Lead by exploring new ideas in ESG, understanding industry challenges, and using national standards.
  • Keep up with their internal strategies and new external ESG trends.
  • Create and put into action an ESG plan that fits the company’s goals, and builds their reputation, aiming to be a top ESG company in their field.
  • Collaborate closely with the Compliance & ESG Director and ESG Committee to push for ongoing improvement in ESG areas, while also considering business growth opportunities and ways to reduce risks.
  • Foster engagement across different parts of the organisation, bridging technical, organisational, and political boundaries to drive cultural change.
  • Challenge internal initiatives that claim to support ESG goals, pointing out potential risks and future opportunities to ensure their efforts remain focused and consistent with their ESG strategy.
  • Develop the company’s ESG reporting to showcase ESG performance, activities, and upcoming priorities. Integrate the capital strategy into their company-wide decision-making processes.


Skills and Experience Required:

  • Extensive experience delivering diverse corporate projects in a large organisation
  • Demonstratable experience in governance, compliance and audit processes
  • Proven experience building relationships and influencing senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of sustainability principles, frameworks (e.g. GRI, SASB, TCFD), and industry best practices
  • In-depth knowledge of ESG metrics, reporting standards and investor expectations
  • Critical thinking capabilities on ESG issues to drive the business forward on ESG matters
