School Staff Instructor

Cranleigh seeks to appoint a School Staff Instructor (SSI) and Outdoor Ed Technician for September 2024 to support the leadership and management administration of the Combined Cadet Force and Outdoor Education department, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. To develop students leadership, self-reliance and perseverance and play a key role in developing this popular department.
Cranleigh is fortunate to have an active Outdoor Education Department which has a major input into the co-curricular programme of our very busy senior boarding school to deliver a broad spectrum of activities to pupils between 13 - 18. The ethos of the department is to give everyone a taste of what we offer on their arrival in the IV Form (Yr 9) and then to encourage pupils to specialise in activities with which they have a particular affinity. We are well resourced and have a dedicated Outdoor Education Centre with a bouldering wall, classroom space and storage for kit. We aim to use "in-house" staff as much as possible for the tangible benefits that the crossover provides educationally, academically and pastorally.
This is a part time role generally based on working 24 hours per week, 34 weeks of the year during term time and 4 weeks during the holiday. Hours will be worked Monday to Friday at times to be agreed but there will be a need for flexibility particularly when accompanying CCF camps and DofE expeditions during evenings and weekends.
The successful candidate will be a member of the Armed Forces or Cadets/Youth group or have experience working with youth groups, have an outdoor ed qualification, knowledge of the DofE award, navigation skills and have excellent organisational and administrative skills. A desire to support, encourage and support students is essential.
The ideal candidate will also have a range qualification, be a skill at Arms Instructor, DofE supervisor/Assessor and be First Aid trained, although this is not essential.
