Citadel Source are delighted to be supporting First Bus on the recruitment of an exciting, newly created Bid Finance Manager role as a subject matter expert for large bids and tenders for the business, this role is either offered on a hybrid contract with occasional travel to Bristol or can a fully remote contract with ad-hoc travel.


About the client


First Bus is one of the UK’s largest bus operators, with a fleet of more than 4,500 buses carrying over a million passengers a day. We serve two-thirds of the UK’s 15 largest conurbations, including major urban areas, with a fifth of the market outside London. First were the first national bus operator to accept contactless card payments across all of their services, and in 2022/23 became the first regional bus operator in the UK to install ‘tap on tap off’ capped payment technology across the entire fleet.


The role


The successful candidate will liaise with non-finance SME’s across all areas of the business in order secure the necessary inputs for the financial submission of any major bids. In addition to which they will also provide challenge to the inputs received to ensure the most robust and successful financial bid submission available. The role will also provide support and guidance to the Mobilisation teams for any successful bids to ensure understanding of the financial assumptions within the model and project documents.


As a Bid Finance Manager your role will include but not be limited to:


  • Review of bid and project documentation to fully understand the financial requirements and impact on financials of non-financial clauses.
  • Responsible for the production of suitable financial models to support internal approvals and bid submission requirements, embedding any payment mechanism clauses.
  • Support business SME’s by providing insight and challenge to develop winning initiatives and business cases.
  • Liaise with Group Tax, Treasury and Accounting teams to ensure financial position includes all current requirements and Group positions.
  • Support the Head of Finance in the governance process to produce packs and respond to queries for senior stakeholders.
  • Identify risks and opportunities within the financial submission including benchmarking of financial and non-financial data at a Bus and comparable business unit level.
  • Identify and introduce process improvement and promote the continuous development of the modelling suite.
  • Liaise with the Mobilisation team post bid award to review bid assumptions and Project Agreements highlighting any known risks and opportunities taken within the bid.
