Whilst this is a remote working position, there will be a requirement to work across any of our UK offices and visit your team on a quarterly basis.



What you’ll do:

Reporting into Chief Medical Officer for Data and Research, this role will use our EMIS-X data analytics platform to provide analysis and interpretation of the complex biomedical data captured in electronic health records, patient medication records, registries, and epidemiological observations. This is important work that provides a rich window into the complicated realities of patients and diseases; and can be used to support the many research activities in a variety of ways.


Other responsibilities include:

  • Develop, build and maintaining code lists and rules and their essential meta data to support the needs of internal and external customers to provide services search as research and decision support.
  • Contribute to the development and roadmap of products and services to support trial optimization and real-world evidence opportunities.
  • Actively participate in quality assurance processes to improve data quality and query accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain the master library of artefacts which includes code lists, rule sets, quality assurance documentation and other data objects.


Who you’ll be

You will be comfortable with accessing and interpreting complex medical records, utilising your analytical skills to extract targeted data to help identify cohorts of individuals suitable for research projects.


Ideally you’ll be a registered clinician and have a current registration with a professional UK governing body (for example the General Medical Council, Nursing & Midwifery Council, General Pharmaceutical Council or equivalent). And hold previous experience of working in a life sciences, academia, or NHS setting (ideally primary care), working in a clinical data environment.


You will have the ability to read and interpret clinical study protocols to extract inclusion and exclusion criteria, as well as interpret the criteria to identify and build code sets in SNOMED CT using its hierarchy to return refined patient cohorts.


Other key skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Experience of using SNOMED CT, READ codes
  • Experience of querying databases to extract information using structured query language (SQL)
  • Understanding of DM+D (Dictionary of Drugs and Medical devices), BNF (British National Formulary)
