We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Business Procurement Manager to join our team in Southampton. The primary goal of the function is to strategize, manage, and advise on all procurement-related issues within the designated region/pillar for regional and local management. With a primary focus on improving business efficiency and implementing category strategy, you will collaborate with a strategic and complex stakeholder group while also managing the business's daily procurement needs and a team of 2.


About The Role

How will you contribute:

  • Stakeholder Engagement and Local Expertise:Act as the primary procurement partner for stakeholders (heads of department and their delegated persons), understanding their business needs and be visible and accessible for all procurement topics.
  • Maintain expertise in the regional market landscape and local procurement practices.
  • Liaise with Finance Department to ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices, as necessary for the business with the supplier.
  • Supplier Management and Contract Handling:Manage supplier relationships at a tactical and operational level. Including visits, reviews, risk assessments and resolving procurement issues
  • Oversee the tendering and contract approval processes in collaboration with the business stakeholders and the legal department.
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable new goods or services with users, vendors, and others to determine cause of problem and take corrective and preventative action.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with site and company requirements for safety & sustainability are included in the on-boarding new suppliers.
  • Implement a Supplier Performance Management approach.
  • Category Strategy and Improvement Initiatives:Execute agreed European category strategies within DP World Southampton.
  • Collaborate with central category procurement to implement improvements and innovations.
  • Develop and implement local category strategies, leading cross-functional teams as needed.
  • Cost Management and Reduction Strategies:Develop and implement annual cost reduction strategies.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for commodity and supplier improvements.
  • Negotiate pricing to ensure the lowest cost and source new business opportunities.
  • Management of the procurement of parts and services on a just-in-time basis within defined quality parameters and best price to ensure the terminal achieves its performance objectives.
  • Operational Procurement:Ensure timely delivery of inventory, assets, and services to agreed specifications.
  • Manage and coach direct reports, providing daily feedback and guidance.
  • Purchase materials and services, ensuring the lowest total cost of acquisition.
  • Train operational purchasing requisitioners and record key procurement metrics.



What will you Bring.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Proven track record of procurement experience directly or indirectly with respect to a container terminal operation, oil & gas industry, chemical process industry, or heavy industrial plant machinery.
  • International procurement experience would be beneficial.
  • Technical Engineering knowledge of drawings and engineering technical specifications.
  • Experience with managing a team of procurement specialists.
  • Thorough understanding of software applications for purchasing such as IBM Maximo and Oracle Fusion
  • Certified or actively seeking certification in National Purchasing Management Association, CIPS or similar (Desired but not essential)
  • Ability to implement and execute central category strategy.
  • Experienced in dealing with stakeholders on a strategic level.
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills - written and oral to deal with a wide range of customers-both internal and external.
