The Head of Project Planning & Control is responsible for overseeing the planning, scheduling, and monitoring of all projects within the organization. This role ensures that projects are executed efficiently, within scope, on time, and within budget. The position requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in project management, who can lead a team to deliver high-quality results while maintaining a focus on continuous improvement and stakeholder satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Scheduling:
- Develop and maintain project schedules and timelines.
- Coordinate with project managers to define project milestones, deliverables, and critical paths.
- Ensure alignment of project plans with organizational goals and strategies.
Budget & Cost Control:
- Establish and monitor project budgets, ensuring financial objectives are met.
- Implement cost-control measures and ensure all projects are delivered within the approved budget.
- Analyse financial data to identify trends and risks, and recommend corrective actions.
Resource Management:
- Allocate resources effectively to meet project demands.
- Work closely with HR and other departments to ensure the availability of skilled resources.
- Optimize the utilization of resources across all projects.
Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks.
- Develop contingency plans to address potential project issues.
- Ensure risk management processes are adhered to across all projects.
Project Monitoring & Reporting:
- Implement project control systems to track progress and performance.
- Prepare and present regular reports on project status, including performance metrics and variances.
- Facilitate project reviews and audits, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Project Planning & Control team.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Provide training and development opportunities to team members.
Stakeholder Management:
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project objectives are understood and met.
- Facilitate communication between project teams and stakeholders.
- Address stakeholder concerns and ensure customer satisfaction.
Process Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate and improve project planning and control processes.
- Implement best practices and industry standards in project management.
- Drive initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of project delivery.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role focusing on project planning and control.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Jira).
- Strong understanding of project financials, budgeting, and cost management.
- Familiarity with risk management tools and techniques.
