Well, here at Fujitsu Research of Europe (FRE), we are combining research and industrial innovation to transform businesses and society. FRE is a multidisciplinary center which, as part of Fujitsu’s global R&D activity, conducts research and innovation – achieving together whilst supporting our employees.


We are looking for a Quantum Computing (QC) Software Researcher who will work with a team that will develop applications and algorithms that will be used to strengthen Fujitsu’s quantum computing offerings in various fields such finance, healthcare, social infrastructure and beyond.


Your role will involve:


  • Leading research activity relating to QC application and algorithms and determining a research plan accordingly
  • Collaborating with external academic partners and identifying research problems that will aid fulfilling Fujitsu's QC strategy
  • Managing IP and research output generated in the group through patents, publications, technical reports etc.
  • Managing the research budget regarding personnel costs, Capex, Travel etc.
  • Identify and fulfill team requirements like hiring new researchers and supporting their development
  • Communicating research output, research directions and requirements to various stakeholders and make changes based on feedback provided
  • Collaborate with other Fujitsu research teams worldwide, industry stakeholders, and government agencies to accelerate research output.


Your role will be based in the UK but will require international travel on an ad-hoc basis. You will report into both the local Group Manager in FRE and the Project Director in our Laboratories in Japan.


Your experience


To be suitable for this opportunity, you will be pro-active in your approach, adaptable and able to demonstrate that you have all of the below:


  • R&D management experience, ideally Postdoc (from either an industrial or academic setting) in a relevant field such as Quantum Computing, Electrical & Computing engineering, Mathematics, or Physics. Both experimental and theoretical experience are welcome.
  • Experience and knowledge in using a quantum platform and running a quantum simulator or actual quantum processor is preferred accompanied with programming knowledge to interface with such a platform
  • Experiences at leading or substantially contributing to some research projects in QC or a relevant field .
  • Proven experiences at writing and reviewing papers that have been accepted by journals or conferences in QC or a relevant field.
  • Extensive software engineering experience: Python, C/C++ or R and it’s platforms like Qiskit, Amazon Bracket etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
