Trainee Patent Attorney

UK, UK, United Kingdom Sandersons Full time

Full-time, permanent, office-based position. Starting as soon as possible.

The Role

As a Trainee Patent Attorney, you will be involved in protecting and enhancing the intellectual property assets of our clients. The position involves working on a broad range of technologies, assisting in the preparation and filing of patent applications, and contributing to the development of IP strategies. You will be working alongside highly qualified legal professionals, and will be involved in direct client interactions, providing clear and concise advice on complex patent matters. This role is a gateway to becoming a fully qualified patent attorney, offering a challenging yet rewarding career path.

The Person

We are looking for applications from enthusiastic graduates with a minimum of 2.1 degree in an appropriate technical discipline to train as a patent attorney. We are particularly interested in those with backgrounds in mechanical and electrical engineering.

About Us

Sandersons was founded in London in 1956 by Laurie Sanderson. Following a move to Colchester in the 1960s, the firm has continued to grow, becoming renowned for our ability to provide quality services to clients on a global scale.

Now based at the University of Essex Knowledge Gateway technology and innovation park, we are ideally placed to help businesses grow.

Who we are today

We are based in Colchester and are proud to be a ‘local’ firm, but we operate globally with clients and agents in all countries of the world. Our offices in London offer a convenient meeting location for clients if required.

We work across a range of industries, and trainees will quickly learn to adapt their skills to different technologies, all aspects of IP and will aim to become qualified in both patents and trade marks.

At Sandersons we pride ourselves in developing strong partnerships with our clients, and in being knowledgeable and passionate about all aspects of intellectual property. Our highly pro-active service gives us the flexibility to tailor the way we work to meet each client’s individual needs.

Why Sandersons?

We are a well-established firm with a forward-thinking partnership. We actively encourage a healthy work/life balance, and achieve this through our informal atmosphere, varied and interesting client-base and beautiful location.

We are a small, friendly team with most of our staff members staying with us for many years. As a small firm, our trainees are very quickly involved in all aspects of the process from initial client meetings to assisting partners with complex litigation.

Training

Trainees will work closely with our partners and associates. They will receive support and on-the-job training. They will be expected to work independently under the supervision of their mentor. Training costs will be covered where appropriate by prior agreement. Study leave for exams will be provided where possible.

Competitive salary according to experience.
