Finance Director

Absolute Recruit are delighted to be exclusively partnering with Academia Technology Group to support the recruitment of an experienced Finance Director to be based at their Head Office in Hemel Hempstead, Herts.

Academia is a fast-growing PE backed technology company that partner with vendors such as Apple, Adobe, Microsoft and HP to provide IT solutions across a range of markets. These include the private and public sectors. Academia have been recognised for their incredible work and have won multiple prestigious awards including being placed in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 for 5 years in a row.

With further growth plans the business is seeking a strategically focused Finance Director with a strong background in M&A, financial controls, people development and experience of working with PE firms. This role will sit as part of their Senior leadership team, you will be working with exceptional people and mentored by strong leaders who will help you grow and develop. To considered for this role you will be qualified with significant PQE in industry, and experience of working within IT/MSP environments would be highly beneficial.

Key responsibilities of the FD

  • Operating credibly at board level and contributing to strategy (particularly cashflow, pricing and risk management).
  • Support for the MD and sales director and interaction with potential customers in the sales process as appropriate.
  • Business partnering with operations in their interactions with existing customers and managing debtor days and working capital to ensure business expands in a controlled way with appropriate risk management.
  • Work with the Financial Controller to ensure we have a disciplined and efficient month-end process to ensure we produce accurate and timely MI for the business.
  • Ensure finance managers have clear understanding of their roles and are managed effectively and team plans ahead to maintain financial control and avoid surprises.
  • Manage the team to ensure high standards are met, the team has strong work ethic, but the environment is supportive, collaborative and there is pride in producing good output and quality of service.
    • Lead system improvement projects to improve automation and efficiency.
  • Maintain financial business model to track short and long business performance and to assist with investor and covenant reporting.
  • Manage audit process to ensure a smooth year-end audit with minimal disruption.

The ideal candidate: for Finance Director

  • Hold a formal accounting qualification – preference for ACA.
  • Relevant sector experience of working in high volume IT/MSP services business.
  • Track record of M&A and integrations.
  • Have a very strong bias towards financial control, focus on detail, commercial decision making and hands-on philosophy.
  • Has strong work ethic, high personal output, ambitious, multi-tasks, organised, plans ahead, system savvy and great with numbers.
  • Be detail oriented with a pragmatic and fact-based approach to decision-making.
  • Demonstrates strong excel modelling skills.
  • Interpersonally, be confident, independent, highly self-motivated and comfortable with challenging others and being challenged.
  • Strong communicator and carries gravitas.
  • Lives within 45 minute commute of Hemel Hempstead
