A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Head of Content & Channels to join the Communications team in London. This position will be known internally as - VP Content and Channels.

This new role is critical in driving integration of communications activities across Rolls-Royce, both internally and externally and provides the opportunity to be part of a high-energy team, working at pace to drive the transformation of Rolls-Royce at a pivotal point in its history.

Reporting to the Group Communications Director, you will lead a team that is being formed to drive strategy and execution for our channels and content at Group level and across all three business divisions globally. It will suit a candidate who is able to represent best practice and bring people with them to drive change and introduce new ways of working.

What you will be doing:

In this role you will be a critical part of the Communications Leadership Team and oversee external agency support in the area of content creation. You will also;

Channel and content strategy and planning

  • As a recognised expert inside the communications function and across the Divisions, be responsible for the development of an integrated global content and channel strategy that reflects One Rolls-Royce
  • Determine the most appropriate digital channels to reach key audiences (internally and externally) and ensure those in the Communications team have clarity on the main purpose and use of each.
  • Ensure metrics are in place and regularly reviewed to assess channel effectiveness.
  • Evolve, introduce new or retire channels over time.
  • Develop strategy for the evolution of our website, ensuring it is up-to-date, accessible and supports the overall communications strategy.

Channel management

  • Oversee the content produced and delivered via our owned channels and oversee community management
  • Commission or review content provided by other members of the Communications team to ensure it is fit for purpose for the channel.
  • Track and report regularly on engagement with owned channels, flagging any potential issues or risks.

Create and drive innovation and best practice in visual / design content

  • Provide expert guidance to the team and the business on creating engaging content.
  • Run a graphic design team created as an internal agency to support business needs and create a consistent One Rolls-Royce look and feel to our collateral.
  • Oversee external partners and agencies roster - building and maintaining a network that can support delivery. Including negotiating with Agency and Consultancy principals to ensure the commercial value of work commissioned.

Team leadership and contribution across the Communications function

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary, high-performing team, where collaboration across the Communications Team to drive business-wide priorities is deeply embedded in ways of working
  • Champion use of social media across the function and beyond into the Divisions, helping all teams to consider how to best use our owned channels ​
  • Act as a source of expert digital knowledge and advice, to accelerate the Function’s shift to a more diverse use of channels and content. Monitor and understand next-generation technologies and impacts of AI.
  • Be able to influence and negotiate with Divisional heads and senior executives on the correct approach to content and channels, based upon a clear knowledge of industry and peer best practice.

  • Track record of managing external agencies to time and budget, ability to coach teams to get the best out of an agency, including negotiating good value contracts with Agency principals.
  • Passion for and knowledge of engineering or technology sector.
