Term: Fixed Term Contract for 6 months

Hours: Full time (35 hours per week)

Salary: £65,087 per annum

Location: We have hybrid working in place, with 1-2 days per week, in our office in Canary Wharf.


What exactly will you be doing?


As a VAT Specialist, you will be responsible for all tax-related matters within the Group. Your role will involve maintaining and managing the Group's VAT policies, procedures, and documentation as well as creating a comprehensive VAT rulebook to provide a policy framework and manual for the organisation. You will collaborate with business divisions and cross-functional teams to ensure correct VAT accounting on all transactions, advise on liability queries and liaise with all portfolios to understand their processes and map VAT requirements.


Major objectives


Your major objectives will include:


  • Develop and maintain robust VAT compliance processes and internal controls
  • Create VAT manuals for each of the organisation's products and services
  • Enhance our VAT compliance reputation and increase operational efficiency
  • Review and ensure D365 F&O meets VAT reporting requirements
  • Escalate and resolve any tax compliance deficiencies or incidents
  • Conduct risk assessments, implement risk management strategies, review VAT returns and annual adjustments
  • Seek advice on new situations to ensure compliance with current legislation


What are we looking for?


We're seeking a qualified professional with:


  • CTA qualification from the Chartered Institute of Taxation or extensive VAT experience, ideally in practice
  • Proven experience in UK VAT legislation, particularly in charities/membership bodies
  • Strong understanding of partial exemption methods
  • Experience in implementing new VAT processes in finance systems
  • Excellent numeracy skills and advanced Excel proficiency
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improving efficiencies and internal controls
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics D365 (desirable)


The ideal candidate will have a strong customer focus, the ability to work with diverse stakeholders, and a desire to investigate and deliver improvements to process and system management.
