Our Procurement team is here to make sure we have what we need when we need it, by building strong relationships with suppliers so we can source everything we need to keep our stores, depots and manufacturing sites running. Which, in turn, helps keep prices low for our customers.

As a Procurement Sustainability Manager you will lead the strategy for waste and recycling across all of Morrisons supported by a Procurement Specialist (who will lead retail specific actions), while having sole ownership on the Logistics and Manufacturing sites. This includes managing costs and income across all waste categories (general waste, food waste, specialist / hazardous waste, card, and Plastic) and where feasible driving waste mitigation and/or recycling solutions to support the business meet our Zero General Waste Target.


Sustainability is a critical pillar of our business, with a high expectation from our customers, as a result this role will have Senior Stakeholder engagement from a sustainability strategy perspective, but come with a level of creativity and freedom given the opportunities within this area.

This position follows a hybrid model with a 4.5 day working week. Our teams work from our vibrant head office in Bradford for three days and remotely for a day and a half, Monday to Friday. Applicants should live within a reasonable commuting distance of our office.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Waste and Recycling Strategy ownership and execution
  • Ensuring the needs of the business and internal stakeholders are met
  • Supplier relationship management
  • Delivering on our plan to reduce our General Waste Volumes, through understand our waste and finding innovative solutions and processes to move waste up the hierarchy
  • Getting the most value possible from all waste streams and turning our net spend into an income, while minimising costs to deliver a competitive advantage to Morrisons
  • Category management
  • Strategic sourcing
  • Contracting and contract management


About You


Our ideal candidate will be an experienced procurement professional who has strong knowledge of the industry and supplier base. As such, you’ll need experience and ability in the following areas:


  • Ability to define a clear strategy and execute it with the support of the team around you
  • Ability to evaluate, review and challenge business cases and complex commercial proposals
  • Ability to construct complex tender documentation, contracts, service level agreements and commercial agreements that minimise risk to the company
  • Strong communication, negotiation and problem solving skills; driven, self-motivated and resilient
  • Track record of procurement within a large complex organisation
  • Developing and implementing category management practices and strategies
  • Supplier relationship management
  • Commercial and contract drafting and negotiation
  • Procurement project management
  • Relationship building and influencing at all levels to drive business and commercial benefits
  • Waste and recycling experience is not required but would be a positive
