About Corporate Banking

Corporate Banking sits within Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) and provides client coverage and origination of Corporate banking products to clients generally with £6.5m turnover and upwards. The business is organized around segments being Mid-Corporate, Large Corporate, Real Estate and Public Sector. We support clients both headquartered in the UK and global corporates with their subsidiaries in the UK and within jurisdictions that meet cross border banking guidelines.

About Large Corporate

LC is a client coverage segment within CB and provides origination and coverage to clients with generally £50m or more turnover per annum and operating in a range of specific Industry sectors, each with its own very specific responsibilities and bespoke specialisms. It is market leading in terms of its face to market and has been pre-eminent and well received by clients since its launch in 1999 and formal National model from 2019.

Key products covered are cash management, liquidity, trade & working capital, debt finance, FX and Barclaycard and as appropriate working with the Investment Bank with their specialist suite of products.


TMT covers a broad range of sectors, across technology (software and hardware businesses), media (broadcasting, content and rights plus marketing, advertising & events), telecommunications services (from infrastructure related to resellers) and a variety of digitally-led sectors across B2C and B2B. This role will work alongside a team of RDs with national coverage of this industry.


Overall Purpose of Role

As a TMT RD in the LC TMT team, you will have lead responsibility for managing a specific portfolio of clients and targets classified as large corporate. You will be developing income and ensuring high levels of client satisfaction from this portfolio through creating deep, multi-stakeholder relationships with both existing and new contacts whilst ensuring effective risk management. As a TMT industry specialist you will be expected to understand and be up to date with industry news, corporate transactions, relevant advisors, thought leadership and attendance at relevant events.


The role requires a self-confident and outgoing individual with the ability to listen and understand client needs, communicate clearly and work with colleagues across Barclays to build long-term relationships and deliver on timescales. The individual should have a strong work ethic and to be respectful, collaborative and professional to colleagues and clients.


Key Accountabilities

•Managing a [potentially geographically] spread portfolio of large, complex and strategically important customer relationships, maximising sustainable income and client profitability through providing excellent service, meeting regularly and becoming recognised as a trusted partner. Actively maintain a pipeline of prospects and build close relationships with targets to ensure delivery of targets.

•Developing the portfolio through increasing wallet share, driving forward quality ESG conversations and solutions, as well as winning an agreed number of new businesses / annualised income each year and, for the purpose of this, leading robust deal teams; focusing on Power of One Barclays principles and ensuring strength of direction, momentum and implementation of projects in a timely and professional way.

•Ensure effective risk management across the portfolio and work as a cohesive team with specialist managers carrying out financial, regulatory and control environment due diligence reviews for your portfolio of clients as required. Ensure compliance with all Barclays and CB Risk policies and procedures.

•Work as part of a wider Barclays team to seek, share and embed best practice both regionally and across the group, take part in team and sector meetings.

•Maintain accurate and compliant records within key systems such as Salesforce, GPT, Zeus, Sanctioning Workflow and others as required.

•Be a recognised Banker within the TMT sector via LinkedIn, events, thought leadership and client base.


Stakeholder Management and Leadership

•As a Relationship Director you will be acting as the gateway to Barclays group and primary contact point for external clients and expected to effectively build and foster relationships with multiple contacts from the finance team to the board, C-suite executives and their external advisors.

•The jobholder will also be expected to work closely with key internal stakeholders across different areas of the Bank including but not limited to Financial Crime, Compliance, Operations, Cash Management, FX, Debt Finance, Barclaycard, Investment Bank and Client Servicing as well as to have ability to bring together stakeholders and work effectively under the Power of One Barclays lens.

•Running effective deal teams and working alongside your Associate Banker to deliver for clients is key to this role.


Decision-making and Problem Solving

•An understanding of regulatory and financial crime risk and the jobholder will be required to demonstrate well-developed risk judgment and understanding of Barclays Risk Management Framework.

•Problem solving skills will be required to deliver appropriate products and solutions in complex situations for a large corporate client base with bespoke needs.


Risk and Control Objective

•Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.


Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

•Advanced working knowledge of corporate banking products and services including those linked to cash management, card payments, trade & working capital and FX solutions being particularly relevant to the role.

•Credit skills and debt finance – has risk accreditation L2 at a minimum and/or can demonstrate relevant debt request appraisal and recommendation.

•Business development and account management skills and account planning experience.

• Confident and professional personal and written skills and a developed client presence with the ability to call, meet and negotiate with senior leaders within clients and advisors as the lead point of contact.


Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

•Experience of dealing with multi-banked client relationships including club / syndicated debt.

•Familiarity with running events and/or client entertainment with senior guests.
