We’re always looking to support our colleagues in working in a way that best works for them. Please speak to one of our Talent Acquisition Team to find out more information about our flexible working arrangements.

Your Role and What You'll Be Doing

We’re currently recruiting for a Practice Development Lawyer (PDL) to support the Knowledge Management activities in our esteemed Employment team. This role is can be home based, or based at one of our many Irwin Mitchell offices. Our Flexible by Choice approach allows flexibility and autonomy in relation to your normal place of work, although note, a willingness to travel will be essential. This is a great opportunity for an individual who is currently an employment solicitor/Associate wanting to move away from fee earning work and progress their career specialising in the upskilling/education of our internal employment team / external clients and developing employment knowledge services.

Working as a Practice Development Lawyer, you’ll play a key role

  • in contributing to Knowledge Management initiatives and projects in your practice area,
  • ensuring relevant and up to date legal knowledge is easily available to support our teams in their day to day legal work,
  • supporting client/relationship retention and contributing to business winning activity for example in being involved in client training, the development of employment law products etc.;
  • acting as subject matter experts on matters of high priority or critical importance in employment law, both internally and externally.

You'll also contribute to a number of our firm wide knowledge management activities, representing your practice areas and helping to shape our processes and services, and supporting the delivery of our strategy. Your role will be pivotal in driving the creation of new products and services for the Employment Team tailored to our clients’ evolving needs, ultimately enhancing our service offerings and generating revenue. This will include delivering training directly to clients and undertaking client specific projects.

About You

As a practising lawyer, it’s important that you have an interest in knowledge management and information. You are keen to undertake horizon scanning; keeping up-to-date with any legal developments and helping others to understand these changes and how they can be implemented firm wide. Ideally, it would be great if you had experience working as part of a project team, but this isn't essential.

Given the nature of the role, it’s essential that you hold a current Practising Certificate. You may already have experience arranging and delivering technical training and helping to draft articles and other communications which can be shared with our clients and the wider market to promote Irwin Mitchell. You’ll be an effective communicator so you can work well with all our colleagues, as well as being able to articulate opinions and ideas clearly and objectively.

Our Benefits - What We Can Offer You

  • 25 days annual leave, with the opportunity to buy additional leave
  • Two fundraising days in a year to give back to the community (fully paid)
  • Westfield Health membership, offering discounted leisure and travel and refunds on medical services

We also offer a huge number of well-being initiatives to encourage positive mental health both in and out of the workplace as well as flexible working options to ensure that you are fully supported to work the way that best suits you. Our social responsibility programme is fundamental to who we are. We’re committed to being a diverse and inclusive workplace where our colleagues can flourish. We have a range of groups to celebrate our people across sexuality, disability, age, gender and culture.
