A fantastic and rare opportunity to join our Enterprise Payments Hub platform team within the Payments Modernisation value stream, as a Cloud Infrastructure Lead Engineer. This value stream is responsible for developing and supporting a new Platinum Business Service payments system using cloud-based services. This is a critical Payments system which is core to our member’s banking needs.


To build this new vision we are looking to recruit a new Senior Engineer, who has proven experience in platform engineering and DevOps. Someone who is an agile thinker and ready to bring creative ideas to ensure the team is a success.


In this pivotal role you will lead a group of platform engineers taking responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of a new multi-cloud platform which will enhance organisations Enterprise Payments Hub. Focussing on delivery and service, you will lead the team fostering a proactive culture, ensuring the engineering activities being delivered by the team are of the highest standard.

You will be considered an SME in the technologies which the platform is built upon and use your skills to mentor and guide more junior team members.


You are tasked with leading the team ensuring the solutions being delivered are resilient, performant, and meet with our organisational guardrails whilst ensuring cost and efficiency are considered.


You’ll be at the frontline, delivering our vision to our members by building, Improving, and maintaining a system used to process millions of transactions every day. You’ll be given the opportunity to work with the most up-to-date technologies to deliver real change.

What you’ll be doing


We need an accomplished technical SME, comfortable working across various teams that follow both waterfall as well as agile delivery frameworks. This will include working with the Product Owners, Senior Technology Architects and Technical SMEs. You are well versed with the latest tools and technologies that are used to build automated InfraSecOps pipelines, whilst also covering observability and monitoring aspects of the platforms. You will help to identify the impact of vendor roadmaps and industry trends on the Payments Platforms landscape and ensure that the IT strategy and architecture continues to support the CIOs needs.


You will support the design, build, deployment, and support of the Electronic Payments Hub within the Payments Modernisation preprogramme. You will provide education, advice and guidance to internal resources and to 3rd party suppliers to support a high change cadence and quality outcomes.



About you


We are looking for a Senior Engineer with broad skills in Cloud Platform technologies and strong experience of working in a pressured environment and great leadership skills.

We need someone with expertise including:

  • Possess high levels of technical leadership and organisational skills.
  • Cloud Platform technologies covering AWS and/or Azure including Terraform, EKS/AKS, Linux, KMS, ISTIO Service Mesh, KAFKA, AWS API Gateway, MongoDB.
  • Tooling including Wiremock, Cucumber, Harness, Jenkins, Artifactory, Atlassian Jira & Confluence, Twistlock and Dynatrace.
  • An understanding of microservice architectures and event driven architectures.
  • An understanding of networking and knowledge of security best practices and techniques.
  • Extensive experience in problem solving.
  • Good mentoring skills with the ability to inspire other engineers.
  • Proven thought leadership to influence the strategy for engineering to challenge and inform the approach for solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work in high pressurised environment.
