Job Title: Network and Security Engineer (Contract)

Location: York, Colchester, or London, UK (Hybrid - 2 days onsite per week)

Contract Duration: 6 months (with the possibility of extension)


Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Networks and Security Engineer with a strong background in networking technologies, particularly in public cloud environments such as Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The ideal candidate will possess excellent technical expertise and have the ability to adapt to changing needs in a fast-paced, agile environment.


This role will be aligned with a specific business unit, focusing on change initiatives and ensuring that networking and security requirements are met to support the business's objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Backlog Support: Assist the Product Owner in building and maintaining a backlog of user stories and technical requirements.
  • Work Estimation: Collaborate with the Agile Delivery Lead to provide accurate work estimates and ensure timely delivery of networking tasks.
  • Networking Expertise: Serve as the go-to person for all networking requirements within the assigned squad.
  • Technical Collaboration: Consume, understand, and challenge technical requirements. Contribute to the design process before executing work.
  • Documentation & Handover: Document executed work and ensure proper handover to the BAU (Business As Usual) team for ongoing operations.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, testers, and other team members on projects, such as migrations and disaster recovery (DR) tests, including occasional out-of-hours work when necessary.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate with all levels of stakeholders, both verbally and in writing, to provide updates, progress reports, and insights.


Requirements:

  • Strong experience with Azure networking, including:
  • Network Security Groups (NSG)
  • VNet Peering
  • User-Defined Routes (UDR)
  • Private Link/Endpoint
  • Azure Firewall
  • Load Balancers
  • Hands-on experience with Azure vWAN Hub and Cloud NGFW deployments.
  • Expertise in building VPNs with other cloud providers and appliances.
  • Proficiency with Checkpoint CloudGuard and Palo Alto VM and VMSS (VM Scale Set) in Azure.
  • Experience with Azure DNS and Infoblox DDI.
  • Familiarity with ExpressRoute and VNET Gateways.
  • Knowledge of Terraform and GIT for infrastructure as code.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in both Azure and GCP environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in an agile team environment.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced setting with changing priorities.
