Job summary:

The successful incumbent is a Specialist to assess, develop, treat and discharge adult clients referred with communication and swallowing difficulties within the community and the university hospital departments.


Focus:

The main focus of this post is to serve patients who need to be seen in their home setting. To work as a member of the team, to provide an efficient, effective and coordinated speech and language therapy service.

Qualifications / Education / Training

  • Recognized Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Health and Care Professions Council – License to Practice
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to Master’s degree equivalent

  • Well-established knowledge of a broad range assessment tools relevant to the specialist client group
  • In-depth knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the specialist client group)
  • To employ highly specialist interventions for patients/clients and carers who have severe disability and/or terminal illness on a daily basis; and evaluate outcomes.
  • In depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to the client group) and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits
  • In depth knowledge of the principles of clinical governance /audit
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
  • Knowledge of standards of record keeping
  • Knowledge of AAC
