We are looking for a Technical Accounting Manager to provide comprehensive technical accounting support across the Group. In this pivotal role, you will support both internal and external reporting processes, assist with the preparation of subsidiary statutory financial statements, and maintain the Group's accounting policy manual. As a member of the Group Financial Controller's Team, reporting to the Senior External Reporting Manager, you will collaborate closely with the Group Finance team to uphold high standards in financial reporting, tax compliance, treasury management, and accounting policies.


Main Duties


Technical Accounting Support: Provide expert technical accounting guidance across the Group, ensuring that divisions adhere to Group accounting policies.

IFRS 15 Compliance: Oversee Group compliance with IFRS 15 by working with divisions to assess the implications of major contracts, conducting reviews of revenue recognition treatment for long-term projects, performing deep-dives on specific revenue recognition elements, and improving the revenue recognition control framework.

Policy Maintenance: Update the Group's accounting policies to reflect new guidance, ensuring all policy changes are documented and communicated.

Technical Research: Investigate complex accounting issues, document findings, and prepare accounting papers relevant to the Group's operations.

Onerous Contracts: Manage the Group's review process for onerous contracts to ensure IAS 37 compliance.

Other Items Compliance: Monitor and enforce the Group's ‘Other items' process, aligning it with the latest external guidance.

Distributable Reserves: Calculate and monitor the Parent Company's distributable reserves.

Subject Matter Expertise: Provide guidance on lease accounting, share-based payments, financial instruments, acquisitions, disposals, and pensions.

FRC Guidance: Regularly review FRC updates, assessing potential impacts on the Group's consolidated financial statements.

Training & Development: Conduct regular training sessions on Group accounting policies for wider business teams.

Group Finance Support: Assist in the preparation of financial statements for annual and interim reports, draft papers for the Audit Committee and Board, and collaborate with Investor Relations for accuracy in external publications.

Statutory Review: Support the review of subsidiary statutory financial statements, liaising with Group advisers and external auditors as needed.


About You


The ideal candidate will be a qualified chartered accountant (such as ACA or ACCA) with a minimum of four years of post-qualification experience. This expertise provides the foundation needed to manage the technical demands of the role effectively.


Experience with a ‘Big 4' accountancy firm is highly desirable, bringing a background in accounting advisory that would be advantageous in navigating complex financial reporting and compliance requirements.


A strong knowledge of IFRS is essential, with particular expertise in IFRS 15. The candidate should have experience applying these standards within both a Group consolidation context and in subsidiary financial statements, ensuring accurate and compliant financial practices.


Excellent interpersonal skills are required, enabling clear communication of complex accounting issues to both Finance and non-Finance teams. This role requires the ability to translate technical information in a way that is accessible and actionable for stakeholders across the business.


The candidate should be adept at summarising complex issues and assessing their practical impact on the business. This analytical skill is vital for effectively supporting decision-making within the organisation.
