Your main focus will be achieving full compliance with food manufacturing requirements through systematic reviews and audits of processes and procedures. General Responsibilities:


  • Lead the development of the company's technical function as a key member of the management team.
  • Advise on food safety, legality, and quality matters across all operations.
  • Develop and continuously refine the Food Safety and Quality Management Systems, making sure they align with HACCP principles.
  • Ensure compliance with company and customer standards, as well as regulatory requirements related to food safety, legality, and authenticity.
  • Be the main point of contact for addressing customer technical inquiries quickly and effectively.
  • Manage customer, third-party, and industry-specific certification audits and inspections, as well as liaising with local authorities.
  • Ensure timely resolution of audit and inspection findings, following predefined timelines and corrective actions.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into any identified non-conformities to implement preventative measures and avoid recurrence.


Role-Specific Responsibilities:


  • Lead the site's HACCP, TACCP, and VACCP teams.
  • Verify specifications, labels, barcode generation, and artwork approval to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and apply incident management, product withdrawal, and recall systems.
  • Use root cause analysis to drive effective preventative action plans.
  • Analyse microbiological data trends and address any out-of-specification results to prevent further issues.
  • Manage the agreed set of Technical KPIs and reporting metrics.
  • Oversee the use of third-party laboratories for product and materials testing.
  • Report on trends in complaints, ensuring thorough investigations and actions to reduce future incidents.
  • Approve the review and updating of technical documentation, policies, and procedures, ensuring these are implemented and followed.
  • Engage with management and staff to maintain traceability of raw materials and finished products.
  • Recruit and train qualified personnel for technical and hygiene roles as needed.
  • Manage and support all direct reports, providing clear personal development plans.
  • Advise on hygiene requirements for the site, including manufacturing and non-manufacturing areas.
  • Work with the NPD team to ensure successful launches of new and improved products.

Experience and Qualifications


  • Experience in a Quality or Technical Management role within a modern food manufacturing business.
  • Experience with relevant audits and standards.
  • Degree-level or equivalent qualification in a food-related subject, or significant relevant food management technical experience.
  • HACCP qualification (Level 3 minimum).
  • Lead auditor qualification.
  • Knowledge of own-label products and retailer specification systems.
  • Proven track record in developing, leading, and motivating technical teams.
  • Understanding of current legislation relevant to food manufacturing and product labelling.
  • Experience with food safety and quality systems management within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with retailer, food service, and B2B customer standards and codes of practice.
