About the Team

The Ministerial and Communications Group sits at the heart of HM Treasury. If you are interested in the inner workings of the Government, meeting Ministers, Senior Officials and liaising with the Press then this could be the place for you

Our Communications team is responsible for all communications conducted by HM Treasury and its Ministers. We work closely with Ministers, special advisors and policy teams to communicate HM Treasury’s work, through traditional and new media channels.

We are a fast-paced, encouraging and lively team. We work collaboratively across the different aspects of communications (press, digital, events) in high-profile roles where post-holders are given ownership for their areas.


About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the busiest and most high-profile communications teams in Whitehall, playing a direct role in driving our audience-led communications approach and ensuring our work delivers value for money for the taxpayer and meaningful outcomes.


Reporting to the Head of Strategic Communications and Insight, you will:


  1. Line manage one HEO and one Range C, leading on policy polling, message development and testing to inform narrative
  2. Lead the relationship with external suppliers, internal policy teams and cross-Government teams to ensure consistent reporting on priorities
  3. Lead the re-procurement of an external polling supplier, acting as Commercial support with full oversight and access to relevant systems and contracts
  4. Work with the Planning HEO to develop timely horizon scanning documents based on HMT Grids to inform and visualise medium-term and long-term planning
  5. Work closely with Head of the team to support audience segmentation
  6. Support in the development of a strategic comms plan, including for fiscal events
  7. Lead responses to FOIs and PQs


About you

Our ideal candidate will have experience of analysing information and evidence to provide clear advice. You will have strong time management and organisational skills; able to deliver high quality work to high standards while keeping relevant partners updated. You'll be able to build positive working relationships and have a good understanding of commercial or project management. Lastly, you’ll have a proven knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative research methods from study for a degree or meaningful work experience.
