Summary of the role

The General Manager is responsible for the day to day running of the Soul Mama venue, bringing to life the Soul Mama vision through our fantastic live events, bar and restaurant.

The roles primary aim is to deliver a world-class customer experience by synchronising the front of house, bar, and event departments towards high standards, operations flow, service and product quality, vibe and profitability.


Key responsibilities

  • Lead the restaurant team by example, pitching in to help with service, from host through to table where necessary

  • To work with the Executive Chef, Events/Operations Manager and Bar Manager, to bring the operation all together for world-class events and restaurant service.

  • To ensure daily hygiene and safety protocols to ensure a safe and compliant operation.

  • To liaise with the Bar Manager and ensure the bar menu, service and standards are as they should be.

  • Ensuring the host, front of house and bar areas are appropriately sta?ed.

  • To ensure the restaurant venue is set up appropriately for events and prepared for

    bookings and daily service.

  • Ensuring labour spend is kept within budget.

  • Responsible for the recruitment and training plans of new front of house team members, supervisors and bartenders, making sure they are taught the Soul Mama way and theyre the right culture fit

  • Ensuring the restaurant achieves its commercial targets in sales, gross margin, labour, wastage, loyalty transactions and customer satisfaction

  • Creating a welcoming environment for customers, team members and artists through friendly and engaging service and slick operations.

  • Ensure an organised and consistently high quality front of house service to customers every time, ensuring accuracy and hospitality in service, and building rapport for customers at every opportunity.

  • Foreseeing, planning and preventing service issues at all times, staying one step ahead.

  • Ensuring high training standards and product knowledge including food, wine and cocktail list for all front of house and bar team members.

  • Specific diligence regarding the handling of Allergies on shift and managing dietary requirements for every customer every time.

  • Dealing with customer feedback and providing outstanding solutions to customer complaints.

  • Creating a positive work environment for staff and encouraging their career development.

  • Ensuring inventory of beverages, crockery and other items necessary to deliver outstanding service.

  • Overseeing the cleanliness of staff and the physical bar area and paying attention to possible health hazards and regulation violations

  • Ensure the bar is compliant at all times with food hygiene, staff training and all legal compliance matters

  • Ensure the POS system and technology is looked after, kept and maintained in perfect working order

  • Team are thoroughly trained in the use of technology and how to best service the customer experience.

  • Minimum two years working as a General Manager within a similar busy restaurant, events or hotel restaurant environment.

  • Excellent knowledge of the day-to-day running of a restaurant and bar is essential for success in the role;

  • Knowledge and experience in managing hygiene and safety is essential;

  • Experience managing quality through training, leadership and coaching.

  • Has a good understanding of commercial aspect including sales, labour and rota management, stock control, bookings and events;

  • Experience in a customer-facing role and providing excellent customer service is a must in this position;

  • Practical high-volume restaurant management skills, including running shifts, running the floor for service, customer service, problem solving.

  • Advanced customer service skills and the ability to act on customer feedback

  • Experienced with restaurant technology (payments, till printers, wifi etc)

  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to inspire and manage the team

  • Experienced in managing food hygiene, alcohol and service laws and the confidence to enforce them in a full-service restaurant

  • Experience in managing stock, stock holding, and gross profits.
