Bidwells is looking for an experienced Architectural Technologist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for drafting and revising plans, elevations, sections, and details using AutoCAD LT software. You will also conduct site visits to carry out detailed measured surveys, working under the supervision and guidance of the Head of Historic Building Consultancy and other colleagues. Our team works with a prestigious clientele, including many of the Cambridge Colleges. While most of your work will be done within the immediate team, the nature of our projects requires collaboration with various departments across the firm.

Our Building Consultancy Division offers expert strategic advice and support to property owners, occupiers, developers, and investors, guiding them from acquisition through to project management. The department integrates the expertise of architects, building surveyors, construction consultants, and project managers, all equipped with extensive local knowledge. The Building Consultancy team is well-established across the Eastern Region.


What you'll be doing:

  • Work on a wide range of projects/instructions received from clients and colleagues, liaising closely with all relevant parties.
  • Produce plans, elevations, sections and details of building projects using CAD software.
  • Liaise with other members of the design team over design issues.
  • Be responsive to clients deadlines aswell as support and reinforce the client relationships.
  • Liaise with Client where needed in a professional and knowledgeable manor.
  • Share technical and market knowledge as appropriate.
  • Attend internal events and meetings where possible to contribute, build internal relationships and raise internal profile.
  • Comply with Bidwells policies and procedures, ensure corporate standards and best practice is adhered to at all times.
  • Seek to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all legislation affecting the technical aspects of the construction industry and share knowledge and information where appropriate.
  • Maintain time sheets and submit expenses on time and as requested
  • Be commercially aware of work undertaken in respect of chargeable hours, with awareness of profitability.
  • Undertake administration for the team to ensure the relevant paperwork and client file is kept up to date
  • Carry out such additional ad hoc duties as may be reasonably requested from time to time.

About you:

  • Auto CAD Technician.
  • Knowledge of building regulations.
  • Able to undertake measured surveys.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Able to work under pressure of deadlines.
  • A Professional team player with a positive and can do attitude.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to resolve problems creatively.
  • Full driving licence.

Knowledge of the following is desirable:

  • Background in construction.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 'Project'
  • Revit experience
  • Ability to sketch and/or a working knowledge of 'Sketch up'.
  • Historic building construction and legislation around these buildings.
