Are you a seasoned commercial professional with a passion for delivering successful projects in the nuclear industry?
We are a new government body leading the charge in delivering secure and sustainable nuclear energy for Britain, is seeking a skilled Commercial Lead to join our team.
In this critical role, you will provide strategic commercial leadership, ensuring the effective management of contracts and procurement activities across our projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of contract law, commercial principles, and procurement best practices, particularly those specific to the nuclear industry.
- Stay up-to-date on evolving regulations and industry standards affecting commercial relationships and contract management.
- Lead the development and negotiation of complex commercial agreements, ensuring alignment with project objectives, organisational interests, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Conduct thorough commercial risk assessments of potential projects and contracts.
- Proactively work with stakeholders to develop contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with project teams to address changes, variations, and disputes effectively.
- Manage the preparation and defence of claims and disputes, utilising internal and external resources as needed.
- Oversee the full contract life-cycle, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, performance tracking, and accurate record-keeping.
- Take ownership of contract management processes, implementing efficient systems and identifying areas for improvement.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers, partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of commercial professionals.
To be successful, you'll possess:
- Effective Commercial Management and Leadership skills, with clear knowledge of best practice contract methodologies in the UK environment.
- Highly developed commercial skills and the ability to make sound decisions on matters of high financial value.
- Proven understanding of procurement, contract performance measurement, risk management, and change and claim management.
- Strong negotiating, influencing, and communication skills.
- Proven experience with most common Forms of Contract (NEC & FIDIC) within the power construction industry and major projects and program environments.
- Knowledge of UK Law and its impact on the contract and commercial function.
- Familiarity with the nuclear site license conditions and the nuclear baseline philosophy.
- Good understanding of the UK regulatory framework.
- Good understanding of UK and international supply chain management.
Qualifications:
- Educated to degree level is essential.
- Preferred qualifications: CIPS and/or IACCM accredited.
