This organisation is renowned for its commitment to excellence, not only in the quality of its service, but its customer service and value for money.

The company is environmentally conscious, striving to deliver sustainable solutions that benefit both the community and the environment. It offers a supportive work environment where your contributions can make a significant impact on the lives of thousands of people.

Joining this team means being part of a legacy of excellence and innovation, with ample opportunities for professional growth and development. If you are passionate about making a difference and being part of a dynamic and dedicated team, this is the perfect place for you.

Your new role

In this role, you will take the lead in managing and delivering IT projects, overseeing the technical implementation and management of IT infrastructure, mobile workforce solutions, and network communications. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that our technical IT projects are delivered effectively and efficiently.

As a key business partner, you will drive the successful deployment of IT tools and infrastructure. This means you’ll be at the forefront of our technological advancements, making sure that every project aligns with our goals and delivers maximum benefit.

We pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Here, you will find competitive salaries, comprehensive benefits, and ample opportunities for professional growth. Join us and become part of a team that values excellence, integrity, and a forward-thinking approach.

In this role, you will develop detailed technical project requirements, scope, goals, and objectives. You will identify and evaluate options for project delivery and prepare comprehensive project documentation, reporting, and plans. Managing large and complex projects from inception to closure, you will leverage agile methods to deliver benefits in the most effective manner.

You will oversee the implementation of selected tools, systems, and infrastructure, ensuring they align with project goals. Collaboration with IT Operations teams will be essential to pilot changes impacting operational performance. You will manage the handover of responsibility for the IT solution to the operating ‘business as usual’ model.

Working closely with the Head of Cyber and Ops, you will define and prepare the target support model for new technologies, ensuring alignment with business requirements. You will ensure that IT solution objectives are defined, delivered, and benefits monitored throughout the project’s lifetime.

Monitoring project performance, identifying, tracking, and managing risks and issues to resolution will be part of your daily responsibilities. You will integrate people and business change management approaches into project delivery, manage governance and resources required for the project, and develop schedules and work packages for the IT project delivery team.

Supporting the development of business readiness activities, you will also manage project budgets, including actuals, forecasting, and contingency, keeping projects within financially approved limits. Your role will be pivotal in supporting pre and post-mortems, risk and issue management workshops, scoping, and lessons learned on your projects.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, candidates must have demonstrable experience in managing medium to large-scale IT projects, including budget management and stakeholder communication. This experience is essential for ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining clear and effective communication with all stakeholders involved.

Experience working with third-party suppliers and driving their performance is also crucial. This ensures that external partners meet their commitments and contribute effectively to the project’s success. Additionally, candidates should have a solid background in IT Operations system implementation and management, which is vital for overseeing the technical aspects of the projects.

A proven track record of delivering technical products and services is essential. This demonstrates the candidate’s ability to bring projects from concept to completion successfully. Furthermore, experience in leading medium to large, technical, complex projects is necessary to handle the challenges and intricacies of the role.

Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Projects, and Visio, is required. These tools are integral to managing and documenting project progress and ensuring effective communication and reporting.

Candidates should also have experience in successfully implementing, leading, and supporting legacy IT infrastructure, mobile workforce, and network communication changes. This experience is critical for managing transitions and ensuring that new systems integrate smoothly with existing ones.

In addition to these essential qualifications, several desirable experiences and certifications can enhance a candidate’s suitability for the role. Experience in bringing together matrix-managed teams and using agile and waterfall delivery techniques, including coaching others, is highly valued. Working in a DevOps environment and holding a project management certification, such as PRINCE2, PMP, or APM, can also be advantageous.

Strong financial management skills and experience, particularly in managing projects over £1m, are desirable. This ensures that the candidate can handle the financial aspects of large projects effectively. Experience in the water industry or closely related industries, such as energy or telecoms, can provide valuable context and insights that benefit the role.

These requirements ensure that the candidate is well-equipped to handle the responsibilities and challenges of the role effectively, contributing to the successful delivery of IT projects and the overall goals of the organization.
