Edinburgh Scotland, Scotland, United Kingdom Experis Full time

Are you an experienced PMO Lead with a strong finance background, ready to step into a leadership role and make a significant impact? We are currently seeking a talented and proactive PMO Lead to work closely with Programme Managers and help establish a robust Project Governance and PMO function within an exciting organisation.

As PMO Lead, you will play a crucial role in supporting the successful delivery of complex programmes by implementing and overseeing project governance processes. You will work closely with Programme Managers and senior stakeholders, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for setting up and embedding the PMO function from the ground up. You’ll bring your expertise in financial management to ensure that all projects are monitored and tracked in line with budgetary constraints, providing key financial insights and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the setup, implementation, and continual improvement of the PMO and project governance frameworks across the organisation.
  • Collaborate with Programme Managers to ensure alignment and consistency in project delivery, supporting them in managing risks, issues, and dependencies.
  • Develop and implement project management methodologies, standards, and best practices to enhance overall programme success.
  • Oversee project planning, scheduling, and tracking, ensuring transparency across all projects in the portfolio.
  • Provide clear, concise, and timely reporting to senior stakeholders, ensuring that project status, risks, and financials are accurately captured.
  • Ensure financial governance of projects, working closely with finance teams to track budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation.
  • Implement tools and processes to improve project and programme visibility, performance, and delivery.
  • Mentor and coach project managers, helping to develop project management skills within the team.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have significant experience within a PMO or Programme Management Office environment, ideally with a strong background in finance and budget management. You will have the ability to drive change, set up processes, and work collaboratively with senior programme managers to create a structured, yet flexible approach to project governance.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a PMO Lead, Programme Manager, or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of project governance and delivery frameworks.
  • A solid background in finance, ideally with experience in project financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience in mentoring and coaching teams to achieve high performance.
  • In-depth knowledge of project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Prince2, Waterfall).
  • Experience in establishing or improving PMO functions, including developing governance structures, processes, and reporting frameworks.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to drive change and continuously improve processes.

Desirable:

  • A recognised project management or finance qualification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, APM, ACA, ACCA).
  • Experience within complex industries, such as IT, finance, or engineering, would be advantageous.

Why Join Us?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic organisation at an exciting time of growth. As PMO Lead, you will have the chance to shape the PMO function, bring your expertise to the table, and play a vital role in driving the success of key programmes across the business. You will work in a collaborative environment, supporting a talented team of Programme Managers while also making a significant impact on the overall delivery of projects.
