Job Purpose

To support the HSE Manager and business to minimise the company’s exposure to health, safety and environmental risk through the provision of expert advice, guidance, systems, frameworks and monitoring of requirements under the relevant statutory provisions.


Key responsibilities

  1. Liaise with all enforcing authorities including the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). Environment Agency and West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) to meet legal obligations.
  2. Ensure the Health, Safety and Environmental management systems meets business needs for Amtico to sustain both the ISO 14001 and 45001 accreditations.
  3. Report injuries under RIDDOR (occupational disease & dangerous occurrences) to conform to statutory requirements.
  4. Coordinate Health & Safety and Environmental Internal, External Audits to ensure they are completed within their timeframe and actions are closed out in a timely manner.
  5. Carry out Health & Safety induction training of all new starters.
  6. Specify and source specialist health and safety training e.g. NEBOSH certificate and IPAF as required.
  7. Lead in the review and revision of all relevant procedures and documentation to ensure information is suitable and sufficient and up to date.
  8. Support all departments within the business by offering health, safety and environmental advice and support to all areas of the business, where required.
  9. Produce monthly statistics for Operations Board report.
  10. Liaise with insurers on all risks/plant protection issues and on all matters relating to employers liability claims, completing and analysing evidence, preparing statements, collating documents and verifying defences.
  11. Utilize IOSH trained staff, to help identify hazards within the workplace and to help communicate information across the business, such as safety talks.
  12. Have regular involvement with the wellbeing committee to set clear and achievable targets that focus on the health and general wellbeing of the staff.
  13. Lead by example, play a part in developing environmental initiatives incorporating best practice. Work with the workforce to develop exemplary Environmental & Safety behaviours to gain the highest level of compliance.
  14. Support the Environmental and Safety Advisor in ensuring the Environmental management system meets legal and business needs. Liaise with our energy consultants (JRP) to ensure Amtico remains on target for our Climate Change Agreement (CCA), collecting information as required.
  15. Support the Environmental and Safety Advisor on all areas of sustainability and help the company to work towards Net zero via their 4 internal pillar groups.
  16. Manage stock levels for all health and safety products and consumables to ensure it is replenished in a timely and consistent manner.
  17. Manage and organise the safe disposal of waste including hazardous substances, making sure all relevant paperwork is produced to ensure legal obligations are met.
  18. Follow up on Asbestos DESEAR Dust and noise reports ensuring close out of any actions
  19. Support all Departmental managers at both the Coventry sites and Solihull site to make sure all company safety and environmental objectives are met.
  20. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues in the Health & Safety Department to ensure that the team is unified, works collaboratively, and provides excellent customer service in a timely, effective and consistent manner.
  21. Manage effective communication between the Health, Safety and Environmental Department and key people within the business, stakeholders, customers and partners.

Relevant Experience

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar Health and Safety environment
