Key Account Manager


Location: South Wales & South England

Salary: Up to circa £68k & car allowance £7,200 per annum, bonus up to 25%, pension

Permanent: Full time

Field Based role: across South Wales & South England territory


We are currently recruiting for an experienced Key Account Manager who will be focused on secondary care & have full responsibilities within hospitals. The successful candidate will be responsible for securing optimal formulary positioning and driving sales growth for our client within designated territories for biosimilar/specialty brands. Acting as the single point of contact, the KAM will engage with Trusts, ICBs, and HBs, focusing on high-opportunity accounts and building partnerships with stakeholders through face-to-face and digital interactions. The goal is to ensure the adoption and prescribing of our client's brands in secondary care, driving revenue growth. The role focuses on stakeholder mapping, driving key stakeholder identification post launch, client visits and becoming a valued member of collaborative team of 5-6 professionals.


This role will ideally suit someone from a Biosimilars or Biologics. Hospital KAMs will also be considered.


The Role:

  • Secure optimal formulary positioning, aligning with Trust/ICB/HB priorities.
  • Act as the primary contact for decision-makers and key HCPs within the Trust/ICS/HB, developing strong relationships and partnerships.
  • Identify and prioritise high-opportunity accounts to maximise sales potential and formulary positioning.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with stakeholders through face-to-face and digital interactions to meet customer preferences.
  • Implement sales strategies to ensure effective pull-through of formulary positioning and achieve sales targets.
  • Collect market intelligence, including competitor analysis and customer feedback, to inform strategy and improve decision-making.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to align strategies, optimise resources, and ensure coordinated account management.


Who are we looking for?

  • Comprehensive understanding of the Secondary Care NHS structure, policies, processes, and key governing bodies.
  • Extensive knowledge of the secondary care prescription medicines market and formulary inclusion process.
  • Insight into decision-making processes and key stakeholders within Trusts/ICBs/HBs.
  • Expertise in sales strategies for driving formulary inclusion and sales growth.
  • Proficiency in market analysis, competitor intelligence, and customer insights.
  • ABPI qualified; Clear understanding of the ABPI code of conduct and compliance requirements.
  • Strong account management skills for building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Proficient in selling, influencing, and negotiating to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes for the NHS, patients, and our client.
  • Customer-focused, understanding needs and preferences to tailor approaches for satisfaction and retention.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to articulate product value and address customer concerns.
  • Proficiency in using digital platforms and technologies for communication and engagement.
  • Analytical skills to interpret market data, identify trends, and develop targeted strategies.
  • Account planning and project management skills to execute initiatives and achieve sales targets.
  • Strategic thinking, considering market dynamics and long-term objectives in account planning.
  • Ability to map and influence key decision-makers to secure optimal formulary positions.
  • Degree-level education, preferably in a science subject
  • Proven branded (ethical) pharmaceutical sales experience, selling to key stakeholders across ICSs/ICBs/HBs
  • Proven sales success within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong networks and relationships within disease areas and ICS/ICBs/HBs (advantageous)
