Group HR - Senior Payroll Practitioner

Why join us

Joining our Payroll Operations team at Sainsbury's offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services for our diverse business. As a Senior Payroll Practitioner, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient processing of payroll data and maintaining compliance with statutory requirements. Collaborating with various HR teams, you will have the chance to build strong relationships and contribute to process improvement initiatives. We value work-life balance and offer competitive benefits, including learning and development opportunities, generous holiday allowance, a save-as-you-earn scheme, pension, and staff discounts. At Sainsbury's, we trust our colleagues and empower them to make decisions on when, where, and how they work, fostering a culture of autonomy and collaboration. Join us and be part of a team dedicated to providing a high standard of payroll services and making a positive impact on our employees' experience.

What you'll do

In this role as a Senior Payroll Practitioner, you will be an integral part of the Payroll Operations team, responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely production and administration of Payroll services. Reporting to one of the C4 Payroll Operations Team Leaders, your primary responsibility will be to deliver transactional input, either directly or indirectly, to enable Payroll processing. This includes performing validations and reviews of remote input to the payroll system, responding to error and warning messages, executing data uploads, validating and inputting payroll-related data, undertaking post-pay run error recycle activities, processing pay corrections, and maintaining and processing loan requests. Your expertise in payroll service delivery, statutory compliance, and company policies will be essential, as well as your ability to develop an expert understanding of the myHR Payroll system. Furthermore, you will build strong relationships with wider HR teams, suggest improvements to processes and procedures, and ensure compliance with data protection regulations. Overall, your contribution will ensure the delivery of high-quality payroll services to the business, playing a crucial role in the accurate and efficient processing of payroll transactions.

Who you are

As a Senior Payroll Practitioner, you are a highly skilled professional with a deep understanding of all aspects of payroll service delivery, including statutory compliance, company policies, and authorisation procedures. With your expertise in using the myHR Payroll system and calculating pay and deductions accurately, you play a vital role in ensuring the accurate and timely production and administration of payroll services. Your strong knowledge of HR policies and procedures within the Sainsbury's Group, along with your ability to build relationships and collaborate with wider HR teams, enables you to provide a high standard of service and contribute to improving processes and service delivery. Your commitment to data protection (GDPR) and meticulous attention to detail ensure the accuracy and integrity of payroll data.

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, so you'll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there's always the chance to try something new - whether that's as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we'll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. Here are some of them:

Starting off with colleague discount, you'll be able to get 10% off at Sainsbury's, Argos, TU and Habitat after 4 weeks. This increases to 15% off at Sainsbury's every Friday and Saturday and 15% off at Argos every pay day. We've also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You'll also be able to share in our success as you may be eligible for a performance-related bonus of up to 5% of salary, depending on how we perform.

Your wellbeing is important to us too. You'll receive an annual holiday allowance, and you can buy additional holiday. We also offer other benefits that will help your money go further such as season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, pay advance (where you can access some of your pay before pay day) as well access to a great range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. And if you ever need it there is also an employee assistance programme.

Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you which is why we give up to 26 weeks' pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks' pay for paternity leave.

Please see www.sainsburys.jobs for a range of our benefits (note, length of service and eligibility criteria may apply).

Please note, due to the volume of applications we receive, our roles may close early.
