About you


The Evening Standard is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Shopping Writer to join our ES Best team, which is focused on curating the best shopping recommendations for our readers.


Skills and experience


• 1-2 years of experience in journalism, with a focus on shopping, lifestyle, or commerce content.

• Strong writing skills with the ability to produce engaging and accurate copy across various topics.

• Familiarity with SEO tools and techniques, with the ability to apply them effectively in content creation.

• Experience in trialing and reviewing products across different categories.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• A keen eye for trends and a passion for shopping and lifestyle topics.

• Comfortable writing and scheduling social media posts to promote content.

• Proficiency in using analytics data to guide content strategy and optimisation.


The team and role purpose


This role is ideal for a journalist with 1-2 years of experience, who is passionate about writing shopping recommendations across a diverse range of topics. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for trends, strong organizational skills, and a solid understanding of SEO.


To build a collaborative team everyone will be expected to be in the office a minimum of four days a week when working week-day daytime shifts. This will apply on a pro-rated basis for those who are part-time.


Successful candidates will be expected to take a flexible approach to working patterns and to be available to work evenings and weekends if required by their departmental rota.


Key responsibilities and accountabilities


Writing and Editing: Produce quick, accurate, and engaging copy for shopping recommendations across a wide range of categories, including fashion, beauty, homeware, tech, kids' toys, and more.


Product Trials and Reviews: Trial and review products to provide honest, insightful, and well-informed recommendations for our readers.

SEO Awareness: Use SEO tools and best practices to ensure all content is optimized for search engines, driving traffic to the ‘ES Best’ section.


Evergreen Content Maintenance: Regularly update and maintain evergreen articles to ensure content remains relevant, accurate, and up-to-date.


Content Pitching: Pitch fresh and compelling ideas for commerce content that align with current trends and reader interests.


Organisation and Time Management: Manage multiple tasks efficiently, maintaining high standards of organisation and time-keeping to meet deadlines.


Social Media Engagement: Write and schedule social media posts to promote your articles, driving engagement and readership across platforms.


Data-Driven Optimisation: Utilise analytics data to inform and optimise content output, ensuring maximum reach and impact.
