Our client
Founded in 1926, Thomas Swan & Co Ltd is a leading independent manufacturer of performance and speciality chemicals. The company manufactures over 100 products, from kilogramme to multi-tonne quantities, and offers an experienced and flexible customer manufacturing service.
Thomas Swan is unique within the chemical industry and as a family owned, private business we have the flexibility and speed of decision making that is the envy of larger companies. The business is remarkably diverse and has technical capabilities that are rare for an SME. Despite our size we are an increasingly global company with 75% exports, a sales and distribution office in New Jersey, USA, and a sales and distribution office in Shanghai, China.
Perhaps most importantly, we love what we do, and we are passionate about growing the business.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will fulfil a crucial role in the creation of a new engineering & maintenance management team working alongside a team of established technical engineering experts.
You will have ownership for the development of a new maintenance strategy and plan for the site; including the development of an effective workflow system to continue to maximise performance and drive utilisation. Working closely with an established team of team leaders, you will provide effective leadership, management and coaching to enable your team to reach their full potential.
You will have ownership for the development of high quality maintenance systems/process to drive effective allocation and execution of work whilst taking ownership for its long-term integrity.
Working closely across the site, you will take ownership for the planning for site shutdowns, including contractor management to support the sites production plan.
About you
As an experienced Maintenance Manager, you will have proven experience in the development and delivery of a high-quality maintenance service to support an organisation undergoing a period of change.
You will have previous experience in delivery of a high quality maintenance service in a complex and dynamic manufacturing environment. With well-developed communication skills, you will demonstrate the ability to give confidence to the Senior Management Team but also provide leadership and direction to your team. With a minimum of HNC/HND in an engineering discipline you will have a strong appreciation of the value of systems/processes to deliver great service. The ability to collaborate, challenge, influence across all site teams will enable you to play a crucial role in the development of manufacturing best practise.
Your deep understanding and application of maintenance best practise is more important that specific experience in the chemical industry.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation going through growth at a time of reenergised focus on maximising site performance to play a key part in the development of a high-quality maintenance team.
