Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer with a strong focus on embedded systems to lead the development of electronic platforms for defence and security applications. You will be responsible for both system-level solution development and detailed electronic design work, ensuring that your concepts are realized effectively.

While the primary focus of this role is on defence and security, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to projects in other sectors, fostering cross-sector collaboration, which is a key aspect of our working culture.


Key Technologies for Current Projects Include:

  • Software Defined Radio (SDR)
  • Embedded Linux, RTOS, and Bare Metal Applications on custom design platforms
  • Ultra-Low Power Electronics and Firmware with a broad range of communication technologies (Cellular, WiFi, BLE, DECT NR+, Zigbee, Sub 1GHz, NFC)
  • Microcontrollers using a variety of peripherals (RTC, SPI, I2C, UART, Crypto Engines, DMA, ADCs, USB, AI/ML accelerators)
  • Microprocessor Systems with a range of peripherals

Qualifications: This is a hardware-focused role that requires experience in solving complex problems in several of the following areas:


  • Core Electronics Disciplines: Proficiency in both analogue and digital circuit design, with a deep understanding of embedded systems.
  • Embedded Technologies: Excellent knowledge of key embedded technologies, including FPGA, high-end CPUs, SoCs, high-speed communication techniques, and DDRx memory.
  • Product Lifecycle: Exposure to the full product lifecycle, from concept generation through to product release, with proven experience in delivering designs into service.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape in the UK, EU, and US, with a track record of designing for compliance with relevant standards.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Hands-On Approach: Willingness to be ‘hands-on’ and work with the team to address challenges from first principles on the bench.
