Job Title Degree Apprentice – DTS Software Engineer

Location Rochester

What you will be doing

This apprentice program is provided to develop your capabilities as a Software Engineer. You will be trained to be able to design, build and test high-quality software solutions. You will learn to apply engineering principles to all stages of the software development process, from requirements, through analysis and design, development, implementation, integration and verification.

In parallel with the academic aspects of the scheme providing a foundation of knowledge, you will be assigned to projects where, through on-the-job learning, you will be gaining the specific software engineering competence and skills applicable to the complex display and control systems designed and manufactured by BAE Systems, Electronic Systems at Rochester. As you progress through the scheme, your work will become more challenging with greater responsibility, with the end goal of leaving the scheme as a qualified Software Engineer.

The Electronic Systems Team

The Electronic Systems (ES) sector spans the commercial and defence electronics markets with a broad portfolio of mission-critical electronic systems, including flight and engine controls; electronic warfare and night vision systems; surveillance and reconnaissance sensors; secure networked communications equipment; geospatial imagery intelligence products and systems; mission management; and power-and energy-management systems. Headquartered in Nashua, New Hampshire, ES employs approximately 13,000 people globally, with engineering and manufacturing functions primarily in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Export Control / Security

Please be aware that many roles at BAE Systems are subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.

Qualification requirements

5 GCSE A*-C or 9-4 (or equivalent) Including Maths, English & Science or Technical Subject.

A minimum of 96 UCAS Tariff Points (240 points old system), through achievement of 3 A-levels at grade C or above including Maths, Science or a technical subject, or equivalent (excluding UCAS points gained at AS level)
