Reporting to the Head of Fundamental Analysis, the Gasoline Analyst connects data, analysis, and market information, to create and distribute a consistent, comprehensive, trusted view of European and associated gasoline markets. The principal customers are the physical and derivatives light ends trading desks in London, but there are other important internal customers across the rest of the local and global oil trading business. This role primarily contributes to the company’s profitability through the rigorous and systematic construction, maintenance and analysis of regional supply and demand fundamentals, the understanding of their interaction with price, and the interpretation of market developments. Further value is contributed by the utilisation of this analytical infrastructure to assists with specific strategic and trading decisions. This happens across the business every single day, and therefore the gasoline analyst is an integral part of the company’s trading business.


Responsibilities


  • Build/develop/maintain fundamental supply/demand models and associated tools across a range of gasoline markets, using both well-established and innovative methodologies.
  • Leverage core analysis to create bespoke analysis to benefit physical and paper trading business.
  • Distribute analysis and views in a timely, structured and pro-active basis.
  • Perform market analysis on a reactive basis in reaction to requests from the trading desks, in particular with regards to the development of new products and trading strategies.

Own and drive the development of:

-gasoline market analysis work, ensuring analysis is focused on delivering practical business benefits.

-the integration of the analysis into the trader’s decision making process, eventually into actionable trading tools and strategies.

  • Collaboratively work with the other parts of the London oil business as well as the global business to increase analytical value.
  • Utilise technology to increase the efficiency of the products market analysis.


Person Requirements


  • Graduate with a Bachelor, Masters or PhD degree in mathematics, science, engineering, computer science, economics, quantitative or related field from a leading university
  • Detailed knowledge of European gasoline markets.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a products market analyst, ideally at a key industry player (oil major, trading organisation), or other leading research/consultancy organisation.
  • Experience working closely with trading is preferred, but not essential.
  • Previous work experience in small, high-performance teams a distinct advantage.

The successful candidate must have permission to work in the UK by the start of their employment.
