Together, we are working to build a better digital future for education and research.The role: Jisc is seeking to appoint a new independent member to our Audit and risk management committee. The Audit and risk management committee reports into the Jisc board. In order to support a balance of skills and experience across the committee, we are looking for a qualified accountant with recent and relevant accounting expertise, ideally with broad experience in audit. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who brings strong financial acumen and is ready to contribute to strategic oversight of a national organisation.The Audit and Risk Management committee has a key role in ensuring that the Jisc Group and each company within it has adequate and appropriate internal controls and that the integrity of the financial statements of the Group and its subsidiary companies are beyond dispute. The committee also monitors the work and effectiveness of the internal audit function. Reference should be made to the full committee terms of reference to ensure the role of the committee and its responsibilities are understood.Committee members are not remunerated for their role. However, Jisc will reimburse reasonable travel and subsistence expenses incurred while attending meetings or events necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the position. To ensure new members are well-prepared and confident in their role, a comprehensive induction programme is provided on appointment.This role responsibilities include: Acting in furtherance of the terms of reference of the committee;Acting in furtherance of Jisc's strategy, vision and mission;Upholding the Nolan's seven principles of public life, observing high standards of corporate governance, including respecting and promoting equality and diversity;Attending scheduled committee meetings and contributing to impartial decision-making;Undertaking any other such training as may be required from time to time; and participating in committee effectiveness reviews.Experience Skills & personal qualitiesAn appropriate formal finance qualification demonstrating expertise (e.g. Chartered Accountant)Experience of audit and financial managementA strong collaborator who is able to provide effective challenge where necessaryA commitment to Jisc and willingness to uphold its valuesA solid and demonstrable understanding of risk managementA good understanding of the risks facing JiscServing on a committee requires a strategic and advisory approach, distinct from the hands-on nature of executive roles.
