Job DescriptionTrading Standards Officer – Illegal Tobacco & Vape EnforcementRate: Flexible hourly rate, Inside IR35Working Pattern: Hybrid – Thursdays in the office, onsite inspections as required, remainder of the week working from homeContract Duration: Until 31st March 2026Location: DerbyshireOur client is seeking a motivated and experienced Trading Standards Officer to join their specialist enforcement team, focusing on illegal tobacco and non-compliant vaping products. This role plays a vital part in safeguarding communities, reducing harm, and tackling criminal supply chains.In this role, you will:Investigate and prosecute offences involving illicit tobacco and vaping productsConduct inspections of retail premises and seize illegal or non-compliant goodsWork collaboratively with partners such as HMRC, Police, and Public Health teamsGather intelligence and support local, regional, and national enforcement campaignsProvide clear and authoritative compliance advice to businesses and the publicYou will bring:Strong understanding of Trading Standards legislation, particularly around tobacco control and vaping productsExcellent investigative, analytical, and evidential skillsAbility to work independently while contributing effectively to a teamConfident communication skills and experience of enforcement and prosecution processesA commitment to service improvement and professional excellenceEssential Skills & QualificationsAbility to interpret and apply technical and legal informationStrong verbal and written communication skillsDiploma in Trading Standards, Consumer Affairs, Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards, or equivalentGood working knowledge across a range of Trading Standards functionsSignificant experience across relevant Trading Standards legislation, including:Conducting investigations and enquiriesProducing clear, evidence-based reportsProviding advice to businesses, consumers, and partner agenciesWorking in an intelligence-led, priority-driven environmentLiaising with enforcement agenciesSupporting Home and Primary Authority workIf this is a role you’d like to be considered for then we would love to hear from you
