This role focuses on defining the strategy and architecture for automation, reliability, and scalability of platform services, ensuring seamless developer workflows and operational excellence across the organisation.As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will lead collaboration with software engineering teams, security specialists, and cloud infrastructure teams to architect and implement robust, enterprise-grade solutions that significantly improve system performance, security, and developer productivity. You will be responsible for driving the evolution of platform services, mentoring team members, and establishing best practices in infrastructure as code, observability, and advanced DevOps methodologies.Key Responsibilities of the role:Platform Strategy & Architectural OwnershipHelp define the long-term architectural roadmap for cloud-native infrastructure and core platform services.Drive the adoption and maturation of automation, scaling, and monitoring practices for infrastructure and application workloads.Design, implement, and govern CI/CD frameworks to maximise deployment velocity, efficiency, and reliability across multiple product teams.Establish best practices and standards for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation.Reliability & Security ArchitectureTake ownership of platform reliability, performance, and security posture, proactively defining and meeting SLOs/SLIs for critical services.Architect observability solutions including advanced logging, metrics, and distributed tracing, and evangelise their use.Collaborate with operations teams to define robust escalation protocols and ensure the platform is highly resilient and recoverable.Act as the primary technical interface with security and compliance teams to ensure platform architecture meets stringent security and regulatory requirements (e.g., healthcare compliance).Technical Leadership & MentorshipServe as a technical authority and mentor for Platform and Development Engineers, pair programming, guiding them in reviews and complex problem-solving.Champion DevSecOps principles and platform best practices across all engineering functions, providing consultation and enablement.Lead significant architectural discussions, influencing technical direction and providing expertise on complex platform capabilities and constraints.Drive the creation of high-quality technical documentation and internal training/knowledge-sharing initiatives to elevate the engineering organisation.What experience do I need:Significant experience in engineering, DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure-focused roles, with a demonstrable track record of leading major platform initiatives.Expert-level proficiency with one or more major cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and experience architecting cloud-native systems.Hands-on experience designing and operating containerisation technologies such as Docker.Mastery of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, etc) used to manage complex environments.Demonstrable experience defining and optimising CI/CD workflows and tooling (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar) at an organisational scale.Advanced proficiency with scripting or programming languages (Python, Go, Bash, etc) for developing platform tools and services.Expert understanding of complex networking, security architecture, and regulatory compliance principles.Expertise in architecting and implementing observability stacks (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger, etc).What's in it for you:Flexible Working Environment:Hybrid working environment from Manchester (City Centre) or London (Farringdon) – 3 days a week from the Office and 2 from homeLeave:25 days (increases with length of service up to 4 days) plus 8 bank holidayHoliday purchase scheme via salary sacrificeAn extra day annual leave for your birthdayEnhanced Maternity LeaveEnhanced Paternity LeaveReligious holiday swap programmeUp to two days paid Volunteering daysPaid time off during the working day to donate bloodPawrental LeaveLeadership & Development:Litmos learningProduct TrainingEmployee Recognition:Peer recognitionsCEO awardsLength of service awardsPerformance Annual Bonus ProgrammeEmployee Benefits:Life Insurance (4x annual salary)Private health care (BUPA) plus discounted rates to add your loved onesSalary Sacrifice PensionIncome ProtectionEAP (access to online Healthcare)Employee Referral scheme- £1,000 tax freeBranded merchandise starter pack£250 working from home allowanceFree Flu JabsEnhanced Sick PayOur values say a lot about us:One TeamMake a differenceWe CareConstant EvolutionTrustPeople are at the heart of everything we do at Magentus — we work as one team to create a healthier society.
