**Care / Support Worker**

The role of a Care Worker / Support Worker is to support people with all aspects of their day-to-day life. As a Care or Support Worker, you can work in a variety of settings, such as Residential care home, Supported Living Accommodation or at someone’s home (i.e. Home Care or Domiciliary care). The role of a Care / Support Worker covers social care activities required to support someone to live a normal, quality and fulfilling life at their own home, residential care home or supported living accommodation. These activities are collectively classified as Personal Care.
It involves providing personal care for people who are unable to provide it for themselves because of old age, illness or disability. Personal care may include
things like washing, bathing or cleaning themselves, getting dressed or going to the toilet, laundry, cleaning the room, preparing meals and feeding.
**Summary of Duties and Responsibilities** **Assist the person with bathing and getting dressed.**
- Doing household tasks such as grocery shopping, laundry and keeping house clean and tidy.
- Prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner and support the person to eat their food.
- Administer oral and topical medications as directed by the doctor / GP.
- You may be required to help the person with personal hygiene.
- Assist the person to lie on bed or sit up from bed / chair.
- Organise suitable recreational activities for the person(s).
- You may be required to escort service users to access community services / activities such as GP Surgery, cinema, swimming and shopping centres.
- You will be required to write daily report of the care/support you provided to the clients/service users.

**Essential Qualification**:
- GCSE A-C in English and Maths.
**Desirable Qualifications**:
- Higher Education Certificate / Diploma from a College, Vocational School or University.
- A social care qualification such as Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

**Working Hours**
Your working hours with us can be as flexible as you want. Our normal weekly work hours is 37.5 hours. You may do an 8- or 12-hour shift, (or less or more) per day. You can discuss with the manager and choose a shift pattern that suits your work/life balance. You can also choose to work part-time or full time. You can choose to work around our school studies, or work if you need this care work as a second job.
**Salary / Pay**:
We will pay you the national minimum wage rate per hour, currently £10.50 per hour.
You may be paid higher depending on your experience. The pay rate may also be higher than the national minimum wage depending on the location of your work e.g. Central London.
**Transport allowance**:
You will be entitled for transport allowance if your work involves Home Care (domiciliary care - caring for people in their home).
**Promotion / Salary Review**:
You will be entitled to promotion and yearly salary review based on your length of service with us and your performance at work.

**Career Training and Progression in Care Work**
When you first start working with us, we will organise an induction for you which will help you to achieve the Care Certificate. You’ll also undergo basic training such as health and safety, first aid, moving and handling and safeguarding children/adult. You might also receive specific training based on what the person you’re caring for needs, e.g. Administration of medication.
You can also benefit from:

- Regular planned training programme for skills and knowledge on different aspects social care, policies and procedures, delivered by accredited professional trainers. All training courses are paid by our organisation and you will be paid for the time you attended the training.
- Opportunities to progress and develop in adult social care and specialise in a certain area or take on more responsibility.
- We offer you coaching and mentoring support and monthly supervision meeting where your personal development goals are discussed and planned with you.
