Overview and scope of job role:

Category Manager - Own Brand is responsible for sourcing own brand products within the Ironmongery and Electrical Direct business from our overseas factories, and developing specific product ranges to meet the needs of our target customers. This includesmanaging the product ranges from enquiry to system implementation. You will be working closely with the purchasing department and Overseas Agents to deliver winning products. This role will work across the Ironmongery and Electrical Direct divisions and willinclude working with the Digital team, Contact Centre, Marketing and Purchasing Departments to ensure revenue, profitability and customer satisfaction goals are met.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

- Conduct product range reviews to identify winning products & gaps that can be sourced to increase profitability and efficiency of the product range
- Manage the strategy and roadmap to ensure projects are on track
- Developing sourcing strategies taking into account cost, lead time, quality, and other factors that affect a company’s supply chain
- Maintain & build relationships with overseas agents and factories
- Identify and review potential factories through audits
- Present business cases for product range developments
- Negotiate quantities and cost pricing with factories to maximize profits
- Identify opportunities for value engineering to produce cost savings
- Project manage the introduction of new product ranges
- Conduct monthly reporting on key department objectives
- Monitor, analyse and report product range performance statistics
- Specify sustainable packaging requirements to ensure we are adhering to environmental responsibilities
- Able to review key Market trends and relevant customer needs to identify new range opportunities
- Monitor product return rates, identifying key product and factory issues to be addressed
- Quality check golden samples to ensure a high standard is met and maintained
- Ensure quality related process & procedures are kept up to date to meet ISO compliance requirements
- Inspect direct sourced product deliveries to the agreed quantity levels to ensure products meet the required standard
- Coordinate with agents & factories to ensure that products are manufactured to meet quality standards
- Identify the root cause of a product quality issue and recommend corrective action to be taken, and then to liaise with the manufacturer to ensure these changes are made
- Manage direct reports and ensure development plans are in place
