**St Martin’s Centre Nursery Deputy**
St Martin’s Centre Nursery is an ‘Outstanding’ provision in the east end of Newcastle. Located in St Martin’s Centre the nursery and charity offer excellent facilities for children and their families with the aim of giving every child the best possible start.
**The Role**:
**Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm, 37.5 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks)**
We are looking for a qualified childcare professional to work closely with the nursery manager to oversee day-to-day supervisory duties based in the nursery rooms (2yrs and pre-school).
You will perform an important role maintaining a high quality, stimulating learning environment, supervising staff and imparting your knowledge and skills to others in a positive and encouraging manner.
You should be a creative and reflective leader, able to implement new ideas and use a range of strategies to continually improve practice and support the management team.
You will deputise in the managers absence.
**Responsibilities**:
Be the first point of contact for staff with general queries and questions, escalating to the nursery manager where appropriate.
Reinforce the nursery’s policies and procedures and deal with any breaches swiftly and in an appropriate manner.
Carry out peer observations to identify training needs and implement smart targets and goals.
Ensure standards are continually being met in line with Ofsted requirements and the EYFS.
Work closely with the SEN team to ensure recommended strategies and plans are being followed.
Ensure that you have excellent understanding and working knowledge of all aspects of health and safety and the risks assessments that are in place, ensuring everybody is following procedures.
Ensure all safeguarding procedures are followed in line with local authority and charity procedures, reporting any breach of safeguarding immediately to the nursery manager.
Respond appropriately to issues regarding confidentiality.
Be vigilant and protect children from harm or abuse, reporting any concerns immediately - in accordance with safeguarding and whistleblowing policies.
Reflect on daily practice and identify areas for continual improvement.
Promote equality and diversity within the nursery, challenging any behaviour which does not support our inclusive practice and equal opportunity policy.
Deploy staff and resources effectively, maintaining ratios across the nursery at all times.
Report any concerning behaviour immediately to the nursery manager.
Ensure your first aid box is fully stocked and accessible.
Weekly stock check of food items, PPE and disposables, alerting the nursery manager of any orders needed.
Secure your room every evening to assist with the lock up of the centre.
Ensure cleaning and sterilising rotas are implemented and adhered to.
**Qualifications requirements and skills**
Minimum level 3 qualification in Early Years
At least two years’ experience working in a similar role
Food Hygiene Certificate
Paediatric First Aid
Safeguarding Training certificate
Excellent working knowledge of the EYFS and current Ofsted statutory guidance
Knowledge and proven practical experience of implementing good quality learning opportunities
Good communication skills with the ability give positive feedback and encouragement to staff
Excellent verbal and communication skills with children and parents
Ability to write reports and keep clear and accurate records
Excellent organisational skills
Administrative and IT skills
Calm and caring nature
Ability to work as part of a team
Able to work on own initiative
Reliable, enthusiastic, and flexible
A commitment to quality in all areas, with a high level of motivation and enthusiasm
Able to perform under stress
A creative thinker
A good sense of humour
**Salary**: £12.77 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
