As part of the Ranger team, you’ll need to think about our impact on the environment and how you can help. This is a fixed term position, with a start date of 28th April and an end date of 31st July. This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year. You'll work 480 hours over the duration of the contract and you'll work on a 24-hour rota, meaning weekend, bank holiday and night working is required. We’re currently undertaking our pay review process and it is likely that this salary will be increased from 1st April 2025. **Accommodation is provided to the postholder for the proper or better performance of their duties in accordance with Trust criteria and HMRC rules** What it's like to work here:You'll be based at Low Newton by-the-Sea, on the Northumberland Coast, working at the Long Nanny shorebird site, a nationally significant breeding site for Arctic terns, little terns and ringed plover. The Northumberland Coast is an important area for breeding shorebirds and the National Trust play a vital role in protecting one of the most important sites in the region. You'll be part of the wider Northumberland Coast and Farne islands ranger team, and will report to the Lead Ranger. What you'll be doing:As Assistant Ranger, you’ll be working at the Long Nanny shorebird site, delivering hands on conservation work to protect and monitor Arctic terns, little terns and ringed plover. As no two days are the same, the nature of the role means a flexible approach is crucial. You'll be carrying out extensive monitoring work, taking part in predator control work, maintaining fences and other site infrastructure and engaging with visitors, inspiring others to love our beautiful places as much as you do.
