About the Team
The Enforcement team plays a critical role in ensuring that the regulation and policy we put in place to protect consumers and citizens is effective. The Enforcement team identify and respond to non compliance affecting consumers and competition in the telecommunications, postal and broadcasting sectors.
The team works with policy teams across Ofcom, carries out advocacy work with stakeholders and actively enforces the regulatory conditions that Ofcom imposes on regulated providers, as well as enforcing general consumer and competition law. We routinely monitor complaints, analyse evidence and take swift action to deal firmly and effectively where we see harm, including opening formal investigations, issuing penalties and seeking redress where appropriate.
Purpose of the Role
Our Associate roles are key to carrying out effective and robust enforcement activity. You will help deliver enforcement projects and casework as well as supporting the team’s enforcement input to key policy projects and advocacy work to promote deterrence.
Your key responsibilities
Helping to deliver enforcement investigation casework and monitoring programmes, through:
- Defining the scope of the work and identifying desirable outcomes;- Gathering and analysing evidence;- Producing written outputs for internal and external audiences;- Managing stakeholder relationships to represent Ofcom professionally; and- Delivering high quality work to agreed timetables.
There is also lots of scope to work with policy areas across Ofcom to support strategic outcomes by:
- Influencing policy development to design enforceable regulation; and- Helping develop proactive strategies to encourage stakeholder compliance with remedies imposed
Compliance advocacy:
- Developing effective working relationships with colleagues across Ofcom policy, legal and operational teams;- Maintaining fair and professional relationships with external stakeholders (including companies we may be investigating, public bodies and other stakeholders)- Being able to communicate what “good” looks like and contribute to setting out implications of non-compliance (deterrence).
The skills, knowledge and experience you will need for success- Executing Plans: You will need project management skills to organise tasks and set clear goals, managing resources effectively, whilst keeping an eye on progress.- Articulating ideas: You will need strong verbal and written communication skills. Written communication and drafting skills are important in developing clear documents addressing key issues. You will have the ability to express your ideas, thoughts, and information in a clear and concise manner, ensuring messages are understood by everyone.- Harmonising work: You can work effectively with others, creating an honest team environment and sharing valuable information and resources. You can work collaboratively with others to deliver a specific workstream within a larger project.- Evaluating problems: You will identify and solve issues by using well-thought-out strategies, considering different angles and potential solutions to resolve concerns.- Forming relationships: You are able to successfully build and nurture positive relationships with people inside and outside the organisation.- IT skills including the use of Microsoft Office products.
