Job overview

Your clinical caseload will include the nutritional management and support of people with kidney disease.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for a clinical caseload at City as well as providing operational daily support and guidance to other members of the team working in a team covering both renal and cystic fibrosis as well as supporting rotational dietitian. Additionally you will have responsibility for providing leadership for the team to ensure effective and efficient service delivery, promote staff development, as well as providing expert knowledge and support for dietetic colleagues and for the management team.

We are a large and friendly department of around 100 staff including assistants and technicians providing dietetic and nutrition support across all areas of the Trust and beyond.

The Dietetic service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced dietitian with relevant clinical experience, leadership skills, excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to take forward this part of the dietetic service. Higher education (i.e. MSc level or above) is desirable. You will gain experience in management with the support from other team leaders and dietetic manager. Please refer to the job description attached.

**Main responsibilities**:
To lead the team in the operational management of the therapy service and contribute to the strategic development of the service.

To take responsibility for highly developed clinical reasoning in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients who may have a complex presentation and to determine clinical diagnosis and therapy management.

To monitor the performance of all staff within the team.

To ensure high standards of clinical care within the team, through the training and development of staff.

To evaluate the effectiveness of the service provided and ensure improvements are implemented (in liaison with the Therapy Services Manager).

To be responsible for identifying training needs of yourself and your team in line with Trust and Departmental objectives. To ensure that staff are aware of the need to maintain ongoing competence of all staff undertaking out of hours work where applicable. To provide training and support to cover out of hours work within your area.

**Qualifications**:
Essential criteria

HCPC registered

Requires specialist knowledge for area of responsibility

Recognised post-graduate training relevant to specialty (eg either obtained MSc or completed modules

Evidence of maintaining professional competence through CPD

Desirable criteria

Higher Qualification (MSC or above)

Experience

Essential criteria

Significant post graduate experience, including wide exposure to different specialties and/or experiences at Band 6 in relevant specialty

Experience of management of performance and sickness of staff and participation in recruitment of new staff to maximize workforce potential

Experience in evaluation of evidence based practice, audit, service development and benchmarking

Experience in use of appropriate outcome measures

Previous Experiece as a team leader dietitian

Experiece of working in different clinical settings

Communication skills

Essential criteria

Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including explaining, negotiating, motivating and training

Participation and leading /organising in-service training programmes

Presention skills to groups of up to 25

Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with the multidisciplinary team, patients and carers

Able to communicate complex condition related information to patients, relatives/carers and other clinical/social care staff where there may be barriers to understanding e.g. language barriers, speech, cognitive problems
