The Maintenance Assistant is responsible to the Site Maintenance Manager to assist them with the general upkeep of the Fothergil Homes site, looking after the grounds, gardens, and external and internal maintenance of the buildings, boundary walls, footpaths and driveways as decided by the Site Maintenance Manager, the Residents Manager and the Trustees.

**Main Duties**:
To assist in the following

1. Carry out general repairs and maintenance on the buildings, boundary walls, footpaths and driveways as decided by the Site Maintenance Manager, the Residents Manager and the Trustees

2. Keep the gardens and grounds properly cultivated and in good order

3. Alert the Site Maintenance Manager, Residents Manager or Trustees to any problem, maintenance requirement or replacement needs and give knowledgeable advice as appropriate

4. Keep secure and in good order all the tools and equipment of Fothergil Homes

5. Always ensure that proper health and safety procedures are followed

6. Carry out any other appropriate duties as required by the Site Maintenance Manager, Residents Manager or Trustees to help maintain Fothergil Homes as a caring and well supported community.

**Person Specification**

**Education and Training**

1. Academic qualifications are not essential, but a general knowledge, ability and interest in gardening and DIY is required. (Training will be ongoing)

2. A good grasp of English and arithmetic is desirable. Ability to write messages and notes in clear English and make routine measurements and calculations relating to gardening and DIY is essential.

3. A current clean, full driving licence is desirable.

4. A first aid certificate and knowledge in respect of health and safety and Safeguarding is desirable. Full training will be given if needed.

5. Must have the right to work in the UK and be able to pass a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

**Experience**

1. General practical maintenance skills including the ability to deal with day-to-day joinery and plumbing jobs are essential.

2. Gardening experience is important, as is the ability to carry out routine maintenance work on equipment.

3. Awareness of legislation and Health and Safety issues affecting Fothergil Homes and the residents is desirable. Where necessary, training will be given.

**Personal Qualities Needed**

1. Ability to work with the Site Maintenance Manager to plan work schedules and to work on their own without close supervision.

2. Ability to solve practical problems and complete jobs to a high standard.

3. Good general health.

4. Good communication and social skills, with an understanding of the needs of older people and their environment.

5. Ability to work with and be an effective member of a small team.

6. Capable and calm in dealing with unexpected problems or a variable workflow.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: £12.65 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
