The Gateshead Safeguarding Adults Board are seeking to recruit an Independent Chair to support the work of the board in the next phase of its development providing independent leadership and strategic vision. This is an exciting opportunity to work with and further enhance the already strong partnership arrangements already in place in Gateshead, supporting the board to fulfil its statutory role and function and to meet its identified strategic priorities.

We are seeking a highly enthusiastic, committed and experienced individual to take on this role driving forward the safeguarding agenda in Gateshead and working with regional and national partners to support the safeguarding agenda. You should be able to demonstrate strategic leaderships skills, the ability to manage in large public, private or voluntary sector organisations and experience of chairing complex multi-agency meetings. The role requires sound knowledge and understanding of the legislation and guidance relating to safeguarding adults at risk of abuse and neglect ensuring Gateshead Safeguarding Adults Board meets its statutory obligations and functions as detailed in the Care Act 2014.

The ability to work collaboratively and to promote a culture of learning and development whilst being able to constructively challenge partners is an essential part of the role. You will be working to ensure that the voices of adults with care and support needs, their families and advocates are heard and recognised as part of the safeguarding process as well as promoting effective engagement.

You must have relevant professional experience in health, social care or criminal justice system. The Independent Chair will represent and promote the image of Gateshead Safeguarding Adults Board; therefore, you must be an effective communicator as on occasions contact with members of the public and the media will be required.

It is anticipated that this role will require you to undertake on average 1 - 2 days per month, up to a maximum of 24 days. There would need to be a degree of flexibility. The specific commitment required can be agreed as part of the appointment process and is open to negotiation. Payment will be £550 per day (based on 8 hours at 68.75 per hour).

Gateshead Safeguarding Adults Board have adopted a virtual business model with SAB meetings being hosted using Teams virtual platform. However, it is expected that a hybrid model will be adopted in the future with some face-to-face meetings being reintroduced.
