**JOB TITLE: Caretaker / Cleaner**
**RESPONSIBLE TO: Site Manager / Sport and Leisure and Facilities Manager**
**Headteacher**
**GRADE: Knole Academy Scheme 5**
**37 hours per week**
**ACCOUNTABLE for**:assisting the Site Manager and Sport and Leisure Manager in Cleaning and maintaining the academy premises ensuring the safety, cleanliness, security and good condition of the buildings, facilities and grounds. The duties are shared within the department.
The safeguarding of children and young people underpins the work of the Academy and must be adhered to as a prime responsibility. All staff working in the academy must read and understand our safeguarding policy and statutory guidance on safeguarding before employment begins and on a regular basis. In addition, certain particular duties are reasonably required to be exercised and completed in a satisfactory manner.
**PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Under the supervision of the Site Manager**
- To attend to the opening and closing of the premises at designated times and be responsible for general security at all times.
- To meet and attend to all contractors/visitors who come on the site and keep a log of work being aware of H & S issues
- To ensure all contractors comply with safeguarding of children legislation eg DBSs
- To ensure that all legislative procedures are undertaken and recorded as per requirements eg Asbestos Register
- To receive and check all goods and supplies and distribute them as necessary
- To oversee, as instructed, the efficient working of heating, plant and lighting, monitoring fuel consumption and re-ordering where necessary, keeping required records via a computer (training will be given)
- To read all meters as necessary and maintain approved records as required including any concerned with energy conservation matters
- To clean and be responsible for the tidiness and maintenance of paths, grass areas, fencing, bedding areas, drives and other hard surfaces within the site grounds
- To note and report all necessary matters affecting the health and safety of persons on the site and carry out risk assessments as required
- To undertaking repairs and maintenance on furnishings and buildings
- To carry out errands, such as escorting monies to the bank
- To maintain a caretaker's diary and manual of repairs completed and to be carried out and initiate action for repairs as necessary
- To carry out security duties and associated cleaning with regard to lettings, as required
- To be responsible for chair arrangements for all academy functions, whether year assemblies, induction days, training days, parents’ evenings, exams etc including the return to storage positions of all such furniture including examination desks, dinner tables etc.
- To test the academy's alarm systems and keep a log
- To check emergency lights and batteries are in good working order and keep a log
- To assist the academy with decorating, plumbing and general handy-work including maintenance of fences, new bedding areas etc.
- To ensure that, in absence of any caretaker, the duties are covered
- To carry out regular litter patrols, at least twice a day or more if required, both inside the academy and in the academy grounds
- To clean periodically lamp shades and lighting diffusers, taking account of instructions given on cleaning at heights
- To replenish soap, towels, toilet paper to all lavatories on the site as necessary
- To be responsible for the cleanliness and hygiene of the Dining hall and all site corridors to the required standard and specification which will require, sweeping, moping, hoovering and operating cleaning machinery (training to be given).
- To ensure gym and auditorium is clean and in a suitable condition for use during the day, especially floors
- To comply with academy policies, safe working practices, Health and Safety and COSSH statutory requirements
- To work as part of a team and support other members when needed to meet required site and cleaning standards and specification
- To report any Health and Safety issues to the Cleaning Supervisor and/or Sport, Leisure and Facilities Manager
- To participate in regulatory training
- To carry out other duties as may be deemed reasonable by the Line Managers
**General Duties**:
- To be responsible for personal continued professional development
- To adhere to Health and Safety Regulations
- To be a first aider (training will be given if necessary).
- To keep confidential any issues related to Knole Academy
- To participate in appropriate meetings
- To read, understand and adhere to all Academy policies
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract, Temporary contract
**Salary**: £12.70-£13.20 per hour
Schedule:
