Fire Safety - Team Leader Watch Commander B

An excellent opportunity is available to join the Fire Safety team. Applications are open to high-performing, competent Crew Managers, Watch Managers, and Fire Safety Officers.

It is essential that you are a competent Fire Safety Inspector (FSI) in line with the Competency Framework for Fire Safety Regulators. Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) will be assessed during the process. A current driving licence, access to a vehicle for business use, and relevant business insurance are also required. All ‘grey book’ applicants must demonstrate competence in WM7.

As a team leader, you will need to show strong leadership skills, effective decision-making, and collaborative problem-solving abilities. The ability to engage, inspire and motivate both internal and external stakeholders is key, as is a commitment to delivering our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) and achieving our protection objectives to make communities across the West Midlands safe.

**Responsibilities**:
As part of the Fire Safety team, you will:

- use excellent communication skills to effectively engage with colleagues, stakeholders, and community partners
- provide strong leadership and performance management, inspiring your team to deliver high standards of service
- drive and embed a culture of change and innovation, ensuring continuous improvement in the delivery of protection services
- work collaboratively to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness in achieving our organisational goals

Experience and skills Essential skills or experience
- a Level 4 Diploma as a Fire Safety Inspector
- proven competence as a Fire Safety Officer, meeting the standards set out in the Competency Framework for Fire Safety Regulators
- a valid driving licence, access to your own vehicle for work purposes, and appropriate business insurance
- the ability to manage change and innovate, ensuring the ongoing development and improvement of your team’s processes
- experience of identifying and addressing risk areas in line with Integrated Local Area Plans (ILAP) and the operations commanders’ risk reduction strategies
- the ability to review, scrutinise, and quality-check reports from your team, ensuring high standards of work.

Desirable skills or experience
- qualifications or previous experience in planning or licensing
- management experience or a management qualification.
