The EMEA Head of Commodities Legal is a senior management-level position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team of lawyers, directing day-to-day legal activities as part of Citi’s Legal Function. The overall objective of this role is to provide legal analysis, advice, guidance and decision making within specific areas of expertise related to the Commodities Business in EMEA and in partnership with Legal colleagues globally. This role requires a thorough understanding of Commodities markets and the strategic direction of the Commodities Business, combined with a solid conceptual / practical grounding in the laws and regulations for the geographies in which we operate. The role provides support in the development of medium - to long - term plans and functional strategies for the Commodities Business as well as developing and executing the same for the Legal function itself. Management and leadership responsibility for a team of lawyers in London, including people, budget, and planning. Has authority to negotiate and make independent decisions on issues / activities that have critical impact or influence on company revenues, capital, or business operations. **Responsibilities**: - Lead the Legal team for the Commodities Business, providing support and guidance on all Legal-related matters affecting the Business - Play an active role in career development and people-related matters, including a direct role in talent review, promotion, ratings, and compensation - Serve as a strategic partner to Business seniors and key advisor to business stakeholders and functional partners (e.g., Risk, Compliance) - Key contributor to overall strategy, establishing direction and planning for the needs of the Commodities Legal team in EMEA - Anticipate, evaluate, and appropriately respond to developments in local and international laws and regulations that impact the Business; assist the businesses in evolving to meet marketplace and client needs - Advise the EMEA Commodities Business Head and leadership team on legal issues and risks - Manage and coordinate external legal service provider relationships where appropriate - Provide solutions-oriented legal support and assistance to the Commodities Business in accordance with strategic business needs and applicable regulatory and legal requirements Qualifications: - Extensive years of relevant industry experience, including experience in an in-house legal role; years' managerial experience - Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills - Expertise and transactional experience in a range of physical and financial commodities transactions and products, including the financing of physical commodities (oil, gas, LNG, metals, etc.) in storage and in transit, energy trading, hedging and investment-driven transactions for all types of commodities, sustainability-linked transactions using KPIs, and products related to voluntary carbon projects - Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws and practices across jurisdictions, including those related to shipping; insurance; storage; environmental risk issues; the taking of legal security; UK, EU and international regulations applicable to commodities markets including over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives and exchange-traded futures; knowledge of market standard documents including ISDA and EFET - Excellent written, verbal, presentation, problem solving and analytical skills - Ability to handle multiple complex and confidential matters under time and pressure - Effective negotiation skills and ability to maintain effective relationships at executive levels - Experience in working with regulators/regulatory bodies is preferred - Familiarity with the requirements applicable to a commodities business within a bank is preferred and, ideally, includes an awareness of US bank regulatory considerations - English qualified lawyer with license to practice law in good standing - **Job Family Group**: Legal - **Job Family**: Legal - Product - **Time Type**: Full time - Citi is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
