**Support worker - Children's Residential Home**

**SALARY**: £25,797 - £28,636 per year (£10.10- £11.50 per hour)

**Sleep Rate**: £50.00 per sleep in

**Successful Joining Bonus**: £500

**Location**: Bradford (BD9)

**RESPONSIBLE TO**: Home Manager

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**:Residential Support Worker
- Children's Home**
- Diploma in Level 3/4 in Children and Young People Workforce (ideal)
- Experience of working with young people that have social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties.(required)
- Full driving licence (required).
- Outdoor pursuits with young people.

**Main purpose of the Job - Residential Support Worker
- Children's Home**

To provide advice, assistance and support to young people, safeguarding their welfare at all times. To attend to their practical, physical and emotional needs. To act as an appropriate role model and to work closely with them to enable them to address their difficulties and achieve their optimum potential.

**Duties and Responsibilities of Residential Support Worker
- Children's Home**
- Provide care for young people through: _
- Attending to practical matters in relation to childcare (cooking, cleaning etc)
- Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard
- Meeting the physical, emotional, behavioural, cultural and educational needs of young people
- Acting as a role model and demonstrating appropriate pro-social ways of dealing with problems
- Helping young people gain self-control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable, pro-social conduct.
- Ensuring that each young person’s care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs
- Attending young people’s meetings and contributing to them
- Receiving training appropriate to role and maintaining an up to date training profile
- Responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of self and colleagues in accordance with the requirements of the organisational Health and Safety Policies
- To carry out all other reasonable tasks as directed by the line manager

Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to relate to and communicate with young people forming and maintaining appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with young people
- Awareness of young people’s needs
- Awareness of safeguarding issues and ability to safeguard the welfare of young people
- Ability to work under own initiative
- Ability to take direction and work as part of a team
- Ability to work in partnership and liaise with other professionals
- Basic household skills
- Ability to recognise and acknowledge training needs and respond appropriately
- Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours
- Understanding Equal Opportunities and Anti - Discriminatory Practice issues
- Understanding challenging behaviour and methods of control
- Awareness of the new Quality Standards regulations April 2015
- Knowledge of Childcare legislation

**Shift patterns**:

- Shift 1 Day on 2 Days off
- 6-8 sleep-ins per month required.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
