External Communications Officer

On behalf of Crown Commercial Services, we are looking for an External Communications Officer (Inside IR35) For a 6 Month Contract.
Hybrid - 2 days per week in any office & the rest WFH (Liverpool,
Birmingham, Newport, Norwich)
You will be able to demonstrate a track-record of delivering engaging, clear, and relevant communications activity across a range of channels, with a focus on telling stories to drive engagement and change behaviours. Working under the direction of the Senior Communications Officer, you will use your experience of communications techniques to create engaging content, disseminating it across a range of channels, building engagement, and telling the story of CCS’s work.
As an External Communications Officer, your main responsibilities will be:
- Support the forward planning and delivery of CCS’s external communications activities, working within and drawing inspiration from the Government Communication Service modern operating model
- Handle media enquiries, supporting the Senior Communications Officer to develop and deliver the external communications plan
- Develop productive working relationships with colleagues and external partners to help develop and implement communications plans
- Generate and deliver content ideas for news items, editorial, social media and other channels including video and audio, ensuring the most appropriate and cost-effective channel mix is used
- Edit, revise and optimise copy and content according to audience insight to maximise impact
- Support the development of communication plans considering resources and budgets. Identify risks and plan mitigating actions
- Provide advice and guidance to colleagues on writing clearly for target audiences and championing the CCS Style Guide
- Participate in the press office out-of-hours duty rota
**Essential**:
- Inquisitive mindset, comfortable in using data to tell a story and make recommendations
- Excellent communication planning skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrable experience of measurement and evaluation techniques (outcome focused, robust, consistent)
- Experience in an external communications and/or press office function with a track record of collaboration
- Good influencer, skilled at communicating with senior stakeholders verbally and in writing, providing expert advice and challenge
- Committed to continuous improvement, finding new ways to make things more effective and efficient
- Significant experience using IT systems such as Google Docs, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and GMail
**Desirable**:
- 2 years experience in a similar role
- Knowledge / awareness of strategic planning processes
- External communications / media or relevant qualification
