**Why this role matters**:
This role is based in Ipswich or Bristol and our hybrid working model means you are expected to be in the office 3 days per week.
**You'll have the following responsibilities**:
Technical expert responsible for maintaining expertise in a specific technical domain.
- Responsible for intellectual property creation, contributing to patent filing with their team and supporting IPR exploitation where appropriate
- Accountable for performing research in a specific domain (i.e. Cloud Infrastructure Research) or area that is typically unknown, complex, high impact and high value across multiple domains.
- Responsible for authoring technical papers, capturing intellectual property.
- Responsible for developing novel research work and contributing towards recommendations for future research projects.
**You'll have the following skills and exprience**:
**Skills**
- **Technical domain expert**:Technical or domain expertise. They continually develop their expertise in a key technical area so they are recognised as a technical expert in that domain
- **Qualifications**:Strong academic record in technology specialism, qualified to degree level and may hold a post-graduate qualification
- **Expert communicator**:Presents to peers and managers about their research and area of technical expertise.
- **Experienced in open innovation**:Contributes to creation of patents, technical publications, conference presentations etc.
- **Concept Evaluation**: ability to spot relevant innovations, horizon scanning, determine relevance for the business, develop an effective conceptualisation and build trials to test the concept.
**Experience**
Technical domain expert: evidence of significant knowledge and skill relevant to Cloud Infrastructure, including:
- Networks fundamentals (MANDATORY)
- NFV/Virtualisation core principles (MANDATORY)
- Infrastructure/hardware aspects of telco cloud (MANDATORY)
- Linux
- admin, OS, networking (DESIRABLE)
- Software-defined networking and its role in telco cloud deployments (DESIRABLE)
- Automation principles applicable to telco cloud and cloud native infrastructure (DESIRABLE)
- Other (non CPU) hardware in telco cloud infrastructure (DESIRABLE)
- Data centre design fundamentals (DESIRABLE)
- Tooling/instrumentation (DESIRABLE)
- Software development (DESIRABLE)
- AI/ML and applicability to network management and optimisation (DESIRABLE)
- Experience of publishing papers and delivering conference presentations (DESIRABLE)
- Significant delivery: evidence of business impact through contribution to delivery of research (MANDATORY)
- Stakeholder management: evidence of managing project tasks within local team. (MANDATORY)
- Innovative Thinker: ability to spot and identify new innovations and act to bring them in and capitalise and create value (MANDATORY)
- Commercial Applicability: understanding the business opportunity and potential value around relevant innovations (PREFERRED)
- Problem solving, intellectually curious, comfortable taking ownership and responsibility
- Self-starter, proactively working with mínimal guidance
